noises while driving
I know this is the worst way to diagnose these kinds of things... but I figured I'd throw it out there.
I have a whirring "wow-wow-wow" noise that comes at driving at highway speeds. Its not consistant with engine RPM. And it changes depending on the gear (I THINK i have a TH350). Also, at idle, it sounds like something is shaking and hitting the trans tunnel. Maybe unbalanced driveshaft? In the next 2 weeks I will be completely rebuilding the suspension. Mild drop, all new bushings, alignment, possibly new tires, bearings, trying to make sure all moving parts are up to snuff seeing as how this is my daily for now. Thanks for the input. -david |
Re: noises while driving
If it's vibrating and banging that bad, it may be bent, not just out of balance. but if it's doing it at idle (with the driveshaft not turning) it's probably something in your transmission. I'm just up the road from you in Sherwood, if you need some help, shoot me a PM. I'm off work until Tuesday.

Re: noises while driving
Sweet... and just now, as I was under it, (still inspecting, seeing if I see any thing new/noticeable) I have a square pan tranny, which I think means I have a 700r4...

Re: noises while driving
AAAAAnd I dont think the crossmember was moved back when it was swapped... could be the tranny thumping the tunnel? Anyone?

Re: noises while driving
Pics??
How close is the tranny to the crossmember? the tranny isnt going to move hardly at all while driving....if it bolted down properly. |
Re: noises while driving
I'll see if I can get some pics today. Its rough not knowing the history. What's been swapped, when, how, etc...
