70 cst 4wd longbox inquiry request

hi guys,
great site, just started looking for a project truck and was looking at a 70 cst 4wd long box, 350cu. cab is repairable, most other panels will need to be replaced. frame and drivetrain is great condition from what I can see, looks to be all there. my goal would be, strip and get frame cleaned up and rolling replacing anything needing replacement. I would over time search for good used body parts or aftermarket (which I don't prefer). asking price is 2k. im out of luck and live in salt country and stuff rusts...
does 2k sound ok for pretty much a restorable cab and good drivetrain...

Its a c20 truck. Im after a truck.i can build up to be a decent driver. Nothing over the top, just a good ole 4wd.

My buddy bought a bunch of these trucks and this one looks like the best one to start with.

I assume your saying c20 because of the fender badges? If it’s a true 3/4 ton 4x4 it will be known as a K20, however some lower trim level trucks had c20 badges on the fenders. If It’s all there and the cab is repairable and frame is good I’d say yes it’s worth 2,000. Post up some pictures if you can. The real factory K trucks are getting harder and harder to find.

Rearend?

Do you know the vin? The only difference in 3/4 and 1/2 is the springs and axles in a long bed 4x4 frames are the same. It should have leaf springs alll the way around. Pictures can help us figure out what you have.

1/2 ton K/10 (4x4) has 6 lugs.
3/4 ton K/20 (4x4) has 8 lugs

The price sounds fine if it is a true 4x4.

Pictures sure help.

He does have a 3/4 ton, maybe that would be better to start with... would a 4wd trans and transfer case from an s10 work and be driveable

S10 is something like 1/4 ton so it's weak.
70 will have drum brakes and closed knuckle in front, and the TC is likely to no be the more desirable NP205. I suggest you check on all 3 as well as verify whether it's 1/2 or 3/4 ton. I'd move on and wait for a 71 or 72.

Even a 1/2 ton will ride like a buckboard, so you need to drive it to see if you want your spine abused everytime you drive it.

That said, 2k isn't a bad price.

The hardtail is still a comfy bike to ride... like i mentioned, he does have a 3/4 ton. It has a single dually wheel on front so it can be rolled..i knows a 3/4 or could it be 1 ton..

Negative franken. If original 70 front will have drums and an open knuckle. It’s a one year only setup. Tbody- I would not run s-10 stuff. Also there were no 1 ton 4x4s in the 67-72 trucks. 3/4 was king back then.

Could be a Napco

I've had 2 early 1970 K20s that had closed knuckle drum D44s. One of which had a Rockwell tcase in it too. I'm guessing GM used up some 69 production parts on the first 1970s.

Nobody can access your skill set. And it really boils down to that. Repairing a rusty cab is work! Body work is a trade of patience! And a test of patience! The cab and frame is the truck IMHO. Get a straight frame and good cab. Rust repair in large quantities is beyond weekend dickering.

My 2 cents, worth the price paid! :chevy:
