68 Long Stepper Build - Chyna

4 Attachment(s)
Well I bought the 68 Long Stepper. Was running a bit rough and rich. Backfired a lot while driving and such but once i ran the old gas out of her she stopped backfiring. He said he hadn't had her on the road in about a year. So i need t change some fluids and such. Was idling real high, dieseled just barely after i drover her for about an hour at hwy speeds. She also stalled after about 45 minutes at a stop. So I turned the idle down then though to adjust the mixtures. Did a quick research on the 1406 eldlebrock and adjusted the carb. It seemed like the screws were all the way opened. Turned them all the way right 1 at a time and adjusted them out eventually to 2.5 turns each. Seems to be running a bit better but we will see. She needs new rockers..Looks like someone did a crap job replacing the drivers side previously and there is some rusting just above the windshield which kinda scares me but all in all she is solid. Supports and floors are good. 350 Crate with about 35k miles on it and turbo 400 which currently reads 20 mph over...Guess i need a new speedo gear.

This will be an extremely slow build as my Mustang comes first so ill fix some minor things and then go from there

Windshield Washing Fluid Reservoir was completely missing and lines were cut. So I ran to Pull-A-Part on lunch and grabbed an S10 Reservoir with pump as well as the lines and a T connector :) $14

Re: 68 Long Stepper Build - Chyna

Got the reservoir mounted and found my luck is as usual. The pump was bad, so i had to go buy a new one. Now im up to $30...Tested the new pump and it works. Just need to wire everything up and run the lines to the nozzles

Looking good Jeff. I don't know how I'd missed your new acquisition. Look forward to checking it out some day.

Changed the oil, added coolant, installed a new pcv valve, and installed a doughnut on the down pipe to get rid of the exhaust leak. Driving pretty good so far....Exhausted so im done for the day...Wanted to wire up the my windshield washer pump and start on the stereo but just ran out of energy and my head is bumping

Wire wheeled the drip rails on top, found bondo, painted it with rustoleum, put new seam sealer down, and then repainted it with matte black...Looks a little odd but atleast its protected.

Cut out the radio area and got the stereo area fitted.

Then i converted my ashtray into a cup holder...I wanted it to be seamless but it didnt work out. The cup holder metal wasnt very weldable but i welded into the screw holes on the mounting part to get it fit into the ash tray area and then bolted the front to it...I tried to weld it on but as you can see it ruined the paint and wouldnt hold BLAH!
