1967 Mustang Coupe Build (Electra)

Hello everyone! Im Jeff, a 30 year old IT guy that finally bought my dream car! I have been rebuilding a 78 GMC C15 for about a year now honing my skills and preparing myself to be able to work on the mustang of my dreams. I had nearly 100k on my 05 Mustang GT so I sold it, got my income tax return, and sold possession after possession to get a decent amount of money to buy a good running project. Drove down to ATL to look at a 68 Mustang with 89 302 v8 and T5 transmission only to be disappointed by what was led to be much better of a car. $4300 was just way too much for what was going on with that ride...Lifter ticks, gauges not working, interior destroyed, and bubbling paint.... So on the way back with craigslist on my phone and my buddy at the wheel we found a 67 in route back to nashville that said "Drive it home, you wont need a trailer". We took a look at it and found her...A 67 Original v6 Mustang swapped in a 302 v8 with 3 speed manual transmission, 5 lug, and newish gas tank. Drives Strong, Straight body, originally restored in 2000. Needs paint, window seals, very minimal rust repair, interior work, few other things, and a lot of TLC. We drove her 4 hours home with no problems.....

I just had ACL reconstruction surgery wed so its gonna be a little bit before i get started on her but here is a general outline of what to do

1. Get it in a garage/workshop
2. Remove all seats, carpet, and etc from the interior
3. Rust repair and rust protectant.
4. Peel n Seal
5. Clean Clean Clean all panels
7. New Oil Pressure Sending Unit and Temp Sending Unit
6. New tires
7. Front Disc Brakes covnersion
8. Suspension upgrades
9. Dual Exhaust
10. New fuel lines if the v6 lines havent already been re-routed
11. Remove Front and Rear Windshield
12. Sand and Prime entire outside
13: Paint Charcoal Metallic with Satin Black hood, front, and rear section panels
14: Chin Spoiler
15: Relay Harness and Head light upgrades
16:Tune her up more
17. Black Carpet
18. Black Dash Pad

Just some basics in my head..

So far i have bought a vintage 3 speed Master Shift Hurst Shifter...

That's nice! I have a 67 Mustang that was my first resto, which led me to my 59 Apache project! A good site to go that I got a lot of answers on is www.Stangfix.com. I don't get on there much any more since I'm kind of done with my stang. You can go to my Classic cars and tools site and you can see what I had to do! omg! At least you're able to drive yours at this point.
Looks like you will have it up and looking great quickly~ granted your knee cooperates!

Awesome! Thanks for the info and your car looks great!!! Yeah, Its nice that it drives and im surprised at how fast she is... A lot different then the 05 Gt I sold...But now witha 78 Pickup and 67 Mustang I have two vehicles and no car payment lol Definitely will be reading through that site and yours since I don't get to do much other then lay/sit around for awhile

Cool car. Must have been a maaco paint job? 2000 wasn't that long ago.

Since you already have a 3 speed, I would look into a T5 swap, especially since it sounds like you'll be driving it quite a bit. Check the rear end ratio, if it's too high (like a 2.8) you'll probably want to put in something in the 3.3+ range. My car is a 289/C4/2.8 which is a great non overdrive set up because the high rear end gives me decent mileage (14-15mpg). But the car is also slooooooow. With an overdrive, you can steepen the rear gears for more acceleration power, but it's also necessary so the engine isn't lugging in overdrive. If I ever get back to my Firebird project, it's going to have a Pontiac 400 with a tremec 5 speed and 3.55 posi rear.

And if your car has the single master cylinder reservior... GET RID OF IT! If you loose ANY brake line, hose, etc, you'll lose ALL the brakes. My upgrade kit is sitting in the garage, I need to get mine swapped out too.

Awesome information. I think she gets pretty good mileage as we got her back from ATL on 2 tanks of gas but not sure. Definitely will have to check the rear and the master cylinder. The t5 will definitely be a future change over but since the 3 speed is currently in working condition not a priority

That firebird project sounds mean!!

Thanks again for the info.. The more the merrier

Looks like the same axle in my mustang? An 8" with 2:79 ratio? Looks like your pinion seal may be leaking?

I drilled the holes for the Shelby drop, but went with the normal setup. I don't race or horse my mustang around. Leave well enough alone, save your bucks when you can, spend on something else.
