2005 Envoy with 5.3 issues

Not sure if this is the right place but here goes

Wife has a 2005 Envoy with 5.3. Sunday we went out for dinner probably 75 mile round trip. We had to drop a friend off and then stopped by the store. I stayed in car with it running while she went inside to grab a few things. When I left I made it about 1500 ft and the car sputtered a few times and died at the stop sign. I put it in neutral and it started right back up ran rough for maybe 10 seconds and died again. cranked over fine but would not start after that. Called the rollback and they brought it home. About 3 hours later I went out and it fired right up. 1st thing that had crossed my mind was the fuel pump when it happened. My pickup did the same thing a few years ago but it would not start until I did change it. I put my code reader on it today and it posted 4 codes, 0443, 1516, 1682 & 2176. I don't know much about these new engines and when I googled the codes a lot of it is greek to me. I cleared the codes then I started the car up again today and let it run for 2 hours with the ac on high and it never once cut out. Should I look into this further or wait to see if it happens again? I should mention that before we went to dinner it was low on gas so i stopped and filled up before driving the 75 miles.

TIA
Richard

not my area of expertise either but I did a google search on your codes and saw some similar symptoms on this TrailBlazer / Envoy site.... info about a cracked underhood fusebox. Maybe clues for you there.

Man.....thanks for this reply. Driving me crazy. I have driven it twice since this happened but still scared the damn thing gonna go out again. I am going to check the fuse box out in the morning. If it was me driving it I would not mind it so much but when it comes to wife and grand kids not what I need happening. I will post back if I find anything
Thanks Richard

Well I smacked on the fuse box trying to get it to cut out again, wiggled wires etc. and it would not cut out. Wife has drove it to work all week without issue. She left to go to work this afternoon, we are back under a hot humid spell, and it cut out :m6::censored: just as she pulled into her parking spot at work (thankfully) Since the day after it happened it has been a lot cooler with low humidity but today was almost exact weather as that Sunday. I have not been there yet so not sure what codes it has thrown this time.

Anyone have an idea?:fb:

I went and got it with the tilt deck trailer just now. It has been sitting since 430 this afternoon. Would not start when I got there at 745. Crank but won't fire. Hooked the winch to it and drug it up on the trailer and brought it home. Unchained it, tilted the trailer jumped in figuring I would just coast it down the trailer and ride the brake but said let me try it one more time. Put key in and fired right up. Drove all around the yard and never cut off.

I have been pouring over blog posts from several different sites and everything appears to be leading back to the fuse box. Gonna bite the bullet and order one. Hopeful it fixes the issue.

Re: 2005 Envoy with 5.3 issues

Well bought a new AC Delco fuse block and put it on this morning. Fairly simple process and took less than 30 minutes. Seems to be running fine now and I also noticed that the lights in the dashboard and radio are no longer flickering. I was assuming that the alternator was going bad but I am hoping I fixed 3 issues with the fuse block. The 3rd issue I was having was that the headlights and dash lights would go out randomly for a few seconds up to several minutes then come back on. Only did it a few times but I guess it makes sense if the fuse block was bridging when hot. I guess time will tell.

Re: 2005 Envoy with 5.3 issues

I just seen this . I have a trailblazer SS and had the same problem . It was definitely temperature related . Left us stranded at grocery store . Towed it home thinking fuel pump . 160,000 miles on it so decided to put a new fuel pump in for maintenance purposes for long haul trip security . Happened again at wife work . Went to investigate and it fires up . I then realized it was temp related . Got on the tbss forum and found some info . I did pull the fuse block totally apart and found the problem .

The fuse block is made of plastic . It expands with temp . The wires run in a tight channel . The wires are inserted and some places are in a tight 90 degree turn . When the plastic expands the 90* flexes and will break in time . I did find mine and soldered it back with no problems at all . The tbss problem was the injector circuit would not get power . I did find I could put a paper clip in where the relay was to power it up for test diagnosis . Problem was the relay would not get power to energize .

Hope this might help someone in the future .

I've got a Trailblazer with the 6.2 inline six. I haven't had this problem but hoping it's only on the v8's.

FYI: (For those reading this for first time)
Not sure it would have helped you find the problem on this site but mentioning all of the symptoms you were having would have pointed to some sort of electrical problem. I had a similar issue some time ago on my 68 and it turned out to be a defective low/high beam foot switch. Nothing scarier than going 65 mph at might on a dark country road and losing all lights.

When this 1st started my mind was set on Fuel issues. I never really connected the other two until after changing the box. The lights only went out on my wife once but I heard about it for months  She said when they went out on her everything went out except for the high beams. She had to use them the rest of the way home. Both times it did it to me it only lasted for a couple seconds then came right back on. It had not done it in a while so I was just assuming dirty switch. I am hoping this is the fix of all. I will post back if it does not.

Re: 2005 Envoy with 5.3 issues

Well it has been 2 weeks and so far everything seems to be fixed. Probably jinxing myself but wanted to follow up in case someone else here has same issue down the line. The only thing that is still acting UK are the wipers but I think that is just the board in the wipers motor. My dually did the same thing.
