Thanks for the exhaust tips, now to keep from having drone, it would be better the extend the exhaust all the way to the rear? Maybe dump them before the bumper? And what about a single in dual out flow?

Lucky,

It all depends on what you want, Getting the exhaust exited out from under a vehicle will reduce droning. You can run duels all the way out the back like mine or you can dump out the side in front of the tires, But dumping at the tires is louder since closer to the cab.

If you go headers you can get shortys and retain your stock crossover and intermediate pipes and do a one in two out catback system out the back.

The top of my tips are 1" past the bumper and have very little drone, But it's still a little loud in the cab because there's 502 cid breathing through 3" pipes.

Summit Racing has "their" brand headers and a catback at a reasonable price.....

yeah, drone is just the nature of the game with most Flowmasters I hear...although I think some are supposed to be quieter than others, thus maybe more street friendly...many folks like that sound no matter what though....I had Gibson stainless headers & catback exhaust. The muffler was single in/dual out with split rear exit like Restrorob's. I later installed a roll pan & decided to cut the pipes off after the muffler, installing turndowns for a cleaner look. I loved the sound & never had any annoying drone issues, even with a deleted cat. But Gibson isn't known for being loudly aggressive.

You might be okay with turning them down at each corner before the bumper, kinda like the muscle car look.

I'm lovin those moons....

I was just about to ask about putting on a dual in dual out with shorty headers and turn downs pointed more toward the corners o the bumper....that might be exactly what I'll do.

Oh I'm getting a little edgy, can't wait to get started. It's been raining for the last few days so I haven't been able to start painting, when I do I'll take some pics and share.

Also, what about 225/70's for the front, there 1.54'' shorter and 1.18'' skinnier than the 250/70's. They should clear good and will give the truck just that little bit of muscle car attitude i think.

The 7 inch wheels are exactly the same as the 8s other than the width. The same caps and rings will work on either.

I prefer a wider, 60 series tire. These are 275/60 on 8 inch wheels in the rear and 245/60 on 7 inch front wheels. 4/6 drop.

There's plenty of clearance to drive it any and everywhere without worry and this combo will clear front and rear without any rubs or interference.

That's what I had on my '93 with the green steelies. 225/70's up front & 235/60's in rear. They were 7" wheels as well.

good info right there...my concern would've been the 8" wheel up front, but if you can get the same in 7", that sounds great...if it worked for Tx Firefighter, it'll work for you....you can compare his tires to mine as well....just remember I had a 5/8 drop instead of 4/6

Now I'd like to clear something up for the tire guys out there, u say a 60 series tire is wider than a 70? I'm not sure that is correct, it may look wider but what actually happens is the sidewall is shorter.

On tire sizes the way I was taught is this: on a 255/70r15, 255 is the width of the tire: 255mm wide. 70 is the sidewall, but it's a math thing here...70% of 255=178.5mm tall. Then r15 is 15" wheel. U can use this to find exact heights and widths of tires to match them up for a better fit. If I'm wrong please correct me.

Switching subjects, anybody ever smell antifreeze without a leak? I am dealing with this now and can't seem to find where the smell is coming from, it just maybe the thermostat, not sure.

I understand well about tire sizes and aspect ratios. I was referring to the sizes you mentioned in post number 13. The tires I run are wider than that both front and rear, but 60 series to keep the overall height down from 70 or 75 series tires of those widths.

That's what I meant when I said wider and 60 series.

I understand why you said it. No hard feelings whatsoever. It's good information that some fellas might not know.

Back in the day, guys ran 60s if they wanted wide tires and 50s if they wanted real wide tires. There are still a lot of guys out there that speak old bias ply terminology and I'm sure you figured I was one of them.

I know this seems impossible but I have a had two different trucks with a single chamber flowmaster knock off on them and both (one has single exit and one with dual exit) droned less than the super 40 muffler on my orange truck. Also if you run a pair of the 40 mufflers in true dual fashion you better buy a louder stereo. I had those on my orange truck as well at first with no H pipe then I added the H and the drone seemed slightly better.

My advice would be to get the shorty headers and keep the factory Y pipe then from the y run 3 inch to a single chamber with dual 2.25 outs.

Also if you turn it straight down from the muffler it drones even more than having no turn down at all. I would angle the turndowns slightly or go out towards the tires with pipes.

Of course you could always run it like older Camaro's and Trans Am's keep it all the way to the back then A nice tucked up turn down that's only slightly visable.

I have welded up some pretty neat exhaust systems for myself and several buddies to get it just right.

I Have decided to get a flowmaster delta 40, single in dual out, and gibson stainless headers. Seems to be the best way to go for the sound i want. However, mods are going to have to wait until the money used for my wives rear window is recouped. Seems that certain parents let the kids run around throwing rocks out of grandstands. It so happened our car was in the way of said rock... stupid! Anyway, next payday after this I should be able to buy the tires for the front. I should be able to get the wheels painted by then and so Id say in 2 weeks the truck will have new shoes, oh ya.

I really wouldn't go with the flowmaster 40 series muffler. Tomorrow I will get you a sound clip and photos of my setup. It sounds very aggressive but I don't have a Cat. I think you will agree it sounds awesome. Yet inside it's nice and reasonable.

What muffler are u running? ^

I tend to like to open chamber sound of the flows, but still love the deep rumble, that's what I'm looking for, a good aggressive sound during excel, with deep rumble during cruising. Does that make sense?

You may love the flowmasters. I've never had one, so I can't relate any experiences. My 97 Tahoe has a Magnaflow. I can get a video or sound clip of it if you'd like. Been wanting to do that anyway.

No the kids didn't get caught, but u better believe I'll be watching the top of the stands for them. I have some pull there so I should be able to get them kicked out. ;)
