Front sway bar....WOW!
 

I finally got off my arse, & installed the 1 1/4" sway bar on the 69. All I can say is i should have done the install a long time ago! That longhorn rides & corners so much better(65mph through a 30mph offramp). that old truck sat flat as he!!, tires talkin hard, & the @ss drifting nice & easy :) :crazy: L

Ok thats it. The swaybar install is next!!. :metal:

You of all people just installed a sway bar ! Wow I though you would have had one Ice Ages ago..... Did you get the Poly bushings or new stock style ? You will notice even better handling with the poly.

You said you worked in a Exhaust shop for a while sooo If I am running my exhaust over thew crossmember is 4" enough room between the cab floor and the pipe ? I was thinking about getting the tubes Jet Hot/ Ceramic coated to keep the heat down. Think that would help ?

Yup I really felt the difference when I put mine in. Great upgrade :metal:

A leaf spring truck handles pretty good without the bar.....a lot better with tho! I ran no bar for many yrs, looking for the chassis reaction on a stick shift truck. Im not racing tho, & am thinking smooooove ride on the open road.......she may go back to 400 hydro.....maybe I can swap the 6spd for a Vendors OD ? I want a bench seat in that old "chop top " Chev (she is really a sled). 3/5 drop, with 1 1/2" of body drop, the old truck handled pretty good to start with. Mario, I really havent poked the pipes too close to the floor, but dont think it will be too much problem......just be carefull about getting a set of Flowmasters too close to what might burn(those boogers run HOT!) :crazy: L Oops, the Moog bushings are urathane....that is the route I went, with new straps (dealer item, thanks TX firefighter).....good stuff man ;)

i installed a 1 1/4" sway bar from an '82 1-ton. i used the 67-72 frame mounting straps and new urethane bushings from classic industries.i installed 4 new springs prior to the sway bar with little difference in sway control. the sway bar made all the difference in the world.its almost like driving a sports car LOL.i seen a truck with one in the rear that came off a late 80's camero? something to think about! :confused:

I just installed a smaller stock Swaybar (all i could find at the time, and it was cheap). I notice a big difference in cornering! I can't believe the PO carried a Camper on the old girl. Ohh well.

cornering heaven awaits you !!.. i love mine .. i pulled it form 86 GMC 3/4 ton ..mines 1 1/16 ... Going to upgrade to poly bushings soon ... anyone know a cheap place to get em??

I went through Oreilys, the Moog replacement bushings are urathane. you may find them cheaper , but they ran $27 for 4 bushings.....69L :)

When I replaced the swaybar bushings on my truck it costed around $15-$20 for a set of 4 rubber bushings.

yeah the difference is amazing i have a rear sway bar i think im gonna put on my 2wd blazer also

Some did,some did not,They all should have ,they handle much better with them.

The swaybar was an option, RPO # F59 FRONT STABILIZER EQUIP.

I've got the rear bar as well as the front. Both of them together give the biggest BANG so if you're going to put the one up front, go ahead and put the rear one on there as well.

With a bit of a lowered stance and both bars, these trucks actually do handle rather well!

What are you using for a rear bar? My truck is stock height and had a factory front bar and I swapped it for a 1 1/4 from an 85 GMC 1 ton and also added new poly bushings. Now I notice the rear wants to kinda go its own way when I go hard into corners. I was thinking a Hellwing # 7401 bar, but its pricey, and I havent seen many other bolt on options around.

It's the CPP 7401 kit for coil spring rear.

Same part number as the Hellwig. I wonder if CPP gets them from Hellwig? How long was your front bar on before you installed the rear or did you do both at once? Is your truck stock height?

I don’t think you can use a rear sway bar unless your truck is lowered, at least not the style cpp sells.

Oh man! About 20 years ago I bought a sway bar for $10 complete. After buying new poly bushings, I put it on. All I can say is “the difference between night and day”. If I remember right, the sway bars off the 73-87 Square bodies are the same, and since they became a more popular option then, it’s pretty easy to find them.
Just make sure you get the frame brackets, when you pull it.:metal:
