Gear vendors?
Anyone put a gear vendors behind an np205? I want my 72 k20 to have overdrive , but at the same time I'm trying to keep it as stock as possible. My truck has a th350 trans . I figure the easiest would be a gear vendors overdrive.

Re: Gear vendors?
Did one on my crew cab years ago. Not a big deal, just make sure it is out of 4wd when using

I've done it twice. One in my 86 K30 and one in my dads 70 K10. Both had NP205's. Easy to do and well worth it in my opinion. Makes cruising with the flow of traffic a whole lot easier when running a lower axle ratio.

EDIT: Ok, I think I found it, GV part # Part # 3D0205A (that's the whole kit for a 205 behind an automatic. Pricey! But I guess I already knew that. Good way to go. |
Re: Gear vendors?
If you buy and go to install, instead of bolting it to the rear of the t-case, install some studs first. Way easier to install the unit and a little bit srtonger and less prone to loosen up

Re: Gear vendors?
Oh, I should also mention, the GV NP205 adapter only works with the short, fixed yoke NP205 output shaft. Not a problem if your 205 is original to your early truck, you should have the fixed yoke output shaft. But, if you're using a later model 205, some, like the unit in my 86 K30 had a longer output shaft that was a slip yoke style. If you do have the long output, all you need to do is to swap the rear output to the short, fixed style shaft. Easy to do. I have one or two short, fixed yoke outputs I'd sell if someone needs one.

Re: Gear vendors?
Thanks for all the info Miles. My 205 is original to the truck, a 72, so should be good to go.

Re: Gear vendors?
One my buds used one of these on a truck once that he took offa Volvo at the junk yard. Lots of European cars used these.
They coulda been DN units back then but worth checking out. Might save major coin! |
