70 3/4 ton 4x4 Info. For bigblock

I have a local guy wanting to install a bigblock in a 70 4x4 suburban. What motor mounts will work best. Somebody told him valve covers on a big block will hit fire wall ??? Also HEI will be close. It's a 350- granny 4speed now. Thanks for any and all help !! I don't think they made 402 bb 4x4 suburbans ???

I have a 71 K10 SWB truck I put a 454 in. I used the stock small block mounts but I moved the motor forward 2 inches. No issues with firewall clearance.

I don't know the exact amount but the engine needs to be moved forward a couple inches. You should post this on the main board or the 4x4 area. Putting a big block in a burb 4x4 is no different than putting one in a pick up 4x4

Or Im slow and just have ajviper answer lol

Just an add-on. I moved my motor to the forward set of holes in the frame. I can grab some pictures of it tomorrow if you want me to.

If he is going to use the stock BB exhaust manifolds he will have to use the '68-'71 BB frame brackets/perches. The BB manifolds won't clear the SB frame brackets/perches....

My friend had a 396 with manifolds in his K10 with the stock mounts. No frame cuts. Motor was in the stock position up tight on the firewall. I mocked it up and it will fit 2 inches forward with the manifolds I have. I will try to grab the numbers from those as well.

I don't know about the 4x4's but I know it won't work with the C's, I tried it.....

Sorry about it not being ultra nice looking under the hood. The truck is a daily driver so it isn't the prettiest.

The first picture shows the engine crossmember holes.

I can pull the HEI very easily without any issues or interference from the firewall.

I run a set of Hooker Competition Headers 2463HKR. The only tight spot is on the passenger shackle and a slightly shorter bolt took care of that problem.

I run 1972 2WD big block fan shroud and accessories.

When I installed the big block I also installed a set of new HD 3 leafs. I used polyurethane mounts on the engine. No issues with 3rd member to engine crossmember clearance or the oil pan hitting the crossmember.

If he wants to ask questions I can PM my number and he can call me. I am more than happy to answer any questions.

I moved my engine forward as well. I moved it 1 7/8 inches but I believe it makes no difference. You will be happy with the extra firewall clearance at the distributor.
