Well here we go.found this truck in august on cl.po wanted $3500 for it with a chevelle 12 bolt.got it for $2000 and a case of beer.he wanted some moonshine but none was to be had.motor tranny and front suspension was already removed.started gathering parts and talked to justin (scotts hot rods) and went with another ifs air bag setup for the front and 4-bar for the back.found a nice little used summit 383 stroker.we started working on it about 2 weeks ago and quickly realized we needed to channel the body 2" to get it right.that turned into alot more work but i think worth it.clearance is great in the front but in the rear were gonna have to raise the fenders a couple inches and add to the bottoms.this kinda work is no problem for my buddy bruce at vintage rod barn in woodburn.more to come.chizzler

Looks awesome!! I have a '40 I'm collecting parts for, hoping to get it going in the next year or so. What are you planning on running for the power train and wheels?

few update pics.got the rear bumper fit.looks to be a 50s front bumper with splash pan.fits pretty good.didn't like the way the 40s bumper fit the back.got this one with the truck.got the motor mounts set with the stroker and 700r4.we were able to set it really low to keep the tranny tunnel to a minimum.chizzler

got a little more done.we worked on adding a piece to the lower rear fenders to fill the gap.we channeled the cab 2" and raised the rear fenders about 3 1/2" so the fill in piece was about 5 1/2".we cut the bottom of the fender off and bolted it to the running board to keep everything straight.cut weld grind.next thing we worked on was the bed to running board filler piece.we started by hammering it flat and re bending it 2" taller.thought it might look weird but i think when the new metal is blended to match the fender it wont be to bad.thanks chizzler

few more updates.we made a shroud for the radiator and future electric fan.we also welded in some bump stops for the front and finished the sway bar.i found some bumper brackets on flea bay that were for a 40 truck and looked correct.once we tried to fit them they were not even close.we ended up cutting them and making our own.we would have been better off using $20 bucks worth of flat bar.oh well.chizzler

Re: 1940 "project moonshine"

Hey Chizz, what are you going to do if the sending unit goes bad in your tank? Will you be able to drop that tank out of there? I was going to get a tank just like yours for my 46 but I am leaning towards the smaller version (16 gallon) because it has the sending unit on the bottom.

CHIZZLER 12-31-2012 08:13 PM

Re: 1940 "project moonshine"

paintman:the rear support for the tank bolts onto the frame incase we have to pull it ever.this is also a 16 gallon tank.universal mustang from tanks inc.got it on flea bay.i also looked at using a nova or chevelle tank with a pre 64 nova sending unit.

thanks justin.
