85 swb TRAZER

Bought a 85 short box last winter. It looked pretty good before winter. After all the salt the frame rusted, it was just a winter beater anyways. It has nice 350 with receipts, goodwrench motor, and 3 speed with the granny gear. Have a 73 k5 frame and gonna put the cab on it. started tear down and work on frame here are the pics.

Got some bolts today for the front shocks. Grade 5. Also ordered some new bolts for the front shackles. grade 8 noone in town had them...not even fastnel. ordered them there.

Going to work on getting the motor painted this week and getting it installed this weekend.

going to have fun with the trans mount...
first of all a bolt broke off in the cast.. and the holes in the frame dont line up with the ones in the newer mount. so im gonna have to make my own.

still looking for a cab anybody got a link to some serious rust repair to give me some motivation to do this cab?

Re: 85 swb TRAZER

What kind of BMX bike is in the picture of the frame? Is it a Hutch? Looks like it has Profile cranks. On a note about the truck. This is how I ended up with my half ton suspension. The previous owner took his Blazer body off and put the cab off a half ton shortbed frame on it. I got the frame and bed cheap(He built a flatbed)

threeonthetree 09-04-2012 05:39 PM

Re: 85 swb TRAZER

Yea you got it its a hutch one of my buddys gave it to me! its got profiles on it also. i am planning on building some sort of flat bed.

some of my friends think i should use the other trucks front fenders and make a frame for them. mount them back wards.

im thinking of a short flat bed.

only a few things left electrical and some other ods and ends.

should be running this weekend took the whole summer but we got her done.

Re: 85 swb TRAZER

I like the early fenders but I am partial as I have 2 77 GMCs. I also have an 85 shortbed but I don't plan on keeping it. Looking at the cab you started out with I am really thankful I live in AZ! I won't buy anything here that has rust to speak of as it just doesn't make sense. In general if something is rusty here it has came from somewhere else. Our interior parts get completely baked but I prefer that over rust. That truck I was talking about actually looked really good with a flatbed. What are your plans for the Hutch? Are you into old BMX too? Is it a 20 or 24"? Looks like it has some newer wheels. I have several old BMX bikes myself

I like the older style fenders also my dad has a 75 gmc and i also have a 79 k5 blazer. Looking at that cab again i am thankful i found one close by for 75 bucks in the shape it's in. i bought rockers and cab corners for it just gonna wait till it looks real rough. I think this thing looks bad ass and would look even better with a flat bed or something.

The hutch was given to me and i just got her running. It was a wreck. its a 20'' and has profiles, odyssey rear wheel, sun ringle front, a old haro for and some power lite bars. its a pretty killer ride. i plan on trying to find some old school wheels and other parts for it.

Great Work!!!

I'm in a simular situation on a K5 Blazer with terrible body rust in the bed floor and tailgate mounting.

Can you tell me on the rear cab mounting is that the stock truck cross member and was it hard to locate on the frame. Any tips on mounting the cab to the K5 frame? Is it just bolted on?

sorry for the dated response havent been on here in awhile. been hard at work finishing the truck up.

Have her just about done have to toss a few pics up for you guys.

for your question? this frame is a 1975 it came with the cross member it someone had ground the rivets out so i bolted it back in. i wasn't sure it was gonna work but i got 4x4 body mounts and the rear ones were a lot taller than the fronts. when we lifted the cab up it fit right on! :metal:
