71/72 Gas Pedal On 67

So got everything to set up a 71/72 gas pedal in the 67. While mocking everything up it seems like the cable is to long. Has anyone ran in to this problem? Can someone measure their cable to make sure I got the right one.

Thanks

Where are you going to mount it on the fire wall?

71/72 cable used a ball/socket connection to the carb. That cable pictured has a different end on it and I would guess it is from a 73-up truck

Do you think the 73-up is longer?

That big turn in the cable will wear through the sheath. Or mine did...

So what did you do to fix it?

It looks like they made to different ones. 2wd and 4wd.

I'm not sure, but I know it is different. When I get home late tonight I will measure a 71/72 cable if no one else has by then.

Cool thanks man.

The one I have measured to 10".

Would like to see how other buys dealt with this.

It looks like you are in the 6 cyl position so you may need the shorter 4x4 cable.

Any idea how long the the shorter 4x4 cable is?

Yes the 73+ cable is longer than a 2wd cable (I verified this past weekend at the junkyard) yes from the factory the original cable had an arc in it, and the 4x4 cable is roughly 2 inches shorter from what I understand.

So do think the 4x4 one is shorter then 10"?

Sorry I didn't understand your PM to my 2012 post.
You can cut the sleeve down and shorten the cable at the pedal. I took 1/2" out of mine.

How did you fit the sleeve back to the piece that goes in the firewall?

Thanks for the help.

Re: 71/72 Gas Pedal On 67

I cut the sleeve at the front, where the mount casting meets the sleeve. 1/2" was just enough to keep the sleeve under tension when you mount it in the firewall I can show you better on my computer tomorrow.

I didn't know there were so few sizes used. I needed a non-standard size, because it is for a 4BBL, mounted sideways on a 6 cylinder. I mounted the hanging pedal first, which I would recommend and then collected four different cables from the wrecking yard.

A tight turn shouldn't wear the cable out unless the return spring is too heavy. Mine loops around behind the PCV valve and returns back across the valve cover. Been that way for eight or nine years.

If I am recalling correctly, one of the three screw locations that mounted the original '67 throttle arm was reused for the hanging pedal. I don't remember exactly.
I do remember that as I was doing it, I was glad the engine was out at the time. There are some holes that need welded closed and three new nuts tack welded in place.
