What 3/4 ton Axle Fits 67-72 1/2 ton 4x4s?
 

Hey guys....... New to this forum but not new to forums in general looks like a great site :metal:

Anyways I'm in the process of buying another 67-72 SWB 4x4 (owned a few including k-5s) and would like to know which year axles off a 3/4 ton Chevy i.e. only 67-72 or other years & models etc. will be a direct bolt in for a 67-72 1/2 ton SWB 4x4 truck. BTW I tried searching the forum for my answer with no luck before posting this thanks in advance for your help fellas.

I know the dana 44 and 10 bolt front from 73-87 is a direct bolt in provided you use the later u bolts and clamps. Then you get disc brakes. Dont know of a bolt in rear as the spring pads need to be moved and shock mounts as well to run the later 14 bolt.

Welcome aboard from another swb 4x4 collector. I believe, like stated, both the dana 44 and 10 bolt will bolt in fine up front. The only rear you could use without moving the spring perches is a Cab and Chassis rear end. Trevor

The widths are all the same on the 67-72 1/2 ton axles and the 73-87 3/4 ton axles then?

for a rear end, any 1ton 73-87 will bolt in...all other later rear ends require moving perches....which isnt that big of a deal

I just put a 1995 14 bolt dually from a cab and chassis in mine and it was a direct bolt in. The e-brake cables are different length and the shock mounts are different. That's ok for me since i will use the 95 style shocks.

Yes, the widths are fine. The ONLY rear axle though that will not require modifications is a 1 ton Cab and Chassi rear end. Everything else will requires the shocks mounts to be moved and possibly spring perches as well. Trevor

besides cab and chassis, the single rear wheel c30 pickup also has the same width on the spring pads. 73 87

I put a '79 14 bolt 10.5 ring gear posi full floater unit under my '72 and the shock mounts and the spring perches had to be moved in.No big deal
