Chopped Trucks
 

As many of you know, I peruse Ebay listings on a daily basis for AD trucks. Right now there's an unusual abundance of chopped-top trucks listed. Here are some pics.

I would line up for the grey one, not a big fan of the wheels or the louvers, but thats fixable, and just my opinion. they are all good looking trucks.

Nice!!! I'm trying to figure out what looks different on the grey one, other than the sweet 3 - 4" chop. It looks like the running board is tucked up tight to the cab, or maybe it's just the angle of the pic....?

Personally I think the stance has a lot to do with how a chopped AD truck looks. In my opinion they need to be slammed for it to look right. Laying back the windshield also doesn't help the lines. The suburban is chopped as much as the red or blue truck but the proportions look totally different because the suburban is slammed and the windshield is not laid back. Again just my 2 cents.

I agree with Marc...I did look up that burb on Ebay...its had some things done I dont care for...but the overall look is great...making me want a burb again...!!

i agree.
My OPINION.. the ad trucks can look proportionately off if not done right. I prefer a "level chop" meaning no tilted back windshield... no lower in front than rear. if so make it only an inch...ish. stance is also an important part of the whole picture. to me the grey one looks most proportionally correct.
with all of that being said KUDOS to anyone with the balls and skills to pull it off!!

they are all done well by the looks of it. I just like the grey one more because there is less angle on the front glass and it has a bumper. just my opinion though.

I like a mild chop like 2 inches, the first 2 have too much chop for me, and with the windshield laid back it makes the nose of the truck looks bulbous. The grey one looks the best to me.

The two with the slant windshields are chopped the same way mine is. I'd say that the camera angle has more to do with the nose looking bulbous than anything else.

This time around I am not leaning the posts back for a couple of reasons including saving a weeks worth of work on the window moldings on the doors.

My cut and tape rendition using Cole Porter's old Salinas Boys truck as a starting point shows how I hope it will look when done.

am I correct in that you have done A bunch of work to the hood ?sectioning it? sometimes the hood seems tall when roof chopped maybe this is why I perceive the "out of proportion".. this pic looks good

Looks nice but seems to me AD cabs are already small and seem to shrink in direct proportion to my girth. Steering wheel seems to be growing closer to my gut every month.

Trying to get 80K + and the poorly done interior has a stain on the seat?
Kind of makes you wonder if someone took an old build that may have had a paint job that jived with the interior maybe a mid 90's pastel pink and slicked the truck off, put the up to date gray paint job on it along with doing a very nice job on the chassis and under the truck and stuck the old interior back in.

with an $80K price tag you would think he could recover seats and door panels NOT pink.. looks may be deceiving but looks like door panels are coming apart

May be a flipper trying to sell off a project that just didn't get finished. Or a husband who's wife told him he had to get rid of that truck that he doesn't want to get rid of.

We joke about it but I'd say most of us have seen a vehicle or two that that is pretty well what is happening. Wife says that the car or truck has to go and the guy puts a price on it that it won't sell at. There is a lot of money tied up in that truck though and it may be that the guy is just trying to get his money back which never happens when you spend in that price range.

i dont think that is a stain, the material looks like alcantara or some other type of suede, it looks like a jean seam print from the last guy who sat in it.

That could be, The upholstery just flat isn't up to the standards of the rest of the truck though. Looking at the photos of the chassis, any one of us would be proud to have our chassis turn out that well and the exhaust is a work of art by a master of the craft. All of the other details on the truck show that there was some serious thought put in it but and the whole truck is that way until you get to the upholstery. It looks like it was done by the gal in town who normally does furniture upholstery but got asked to do it because she works a lot cheaper than the name shop over in the next town that has turned out show winning interiors for years.
