which brand paint, and which color red, for the red paint on hood and fender emblems
 

hi.

1957 3600.

looking at the fender and hood emblems, the paint is either missing (maybe stripped at one time) of so faded I can't get a good color match.

does anyone have any first hand experience with painting their emblems?

and if yes, which brand and color did you use? any pics of the results would be appreciated.

I am afraid I might go too bright or too dark.

right now I am looking at rustoleum cherry red (might be too bright) or regal red (might be too dark).

I used Rustoleum Sunrise Red, Here's a pic. Over coated with Rustoleum Crystal Clear Enamel

Rustoleum Regal Red. I taped the outer part and sprayed it, then I wrapped a cloth around the end of my finger, dampened it with lacquer thinner, and wiped the paint off of the tops of the letters. It leaves the sides of the letters painted but I couldn't see any way to prevent that.

If you use this method, use a fairly thin cloth, wet but not soaked, and wipe the paint off as soon as the paint starts to dry.

Resurrecting this old thread because I want to paint the white background on my '55 side badges and I thought I would have to do what Russ posted.

I was at The Car and Truck Shop today waiting at the counter and was looking at their repop badges. The letters are unpainted on the side and I was thinking about how to do it. I remembered someone said to apply old fashioned rubber cement on them, wait til dry then CAREFULLY use an Exacto blade to cut and peel off the cement where you want the paint to go.

I have a perfect set of original badges that someone had rechromed but never repainted. I want mine original so I am going to try this. Maybe with Plasti-Dip in case they come out lousy! Lol. Has anyone figured out another way that works?

My method does leave the paint on the sides but I haven't had any comments about that yet, LOL. I just didn't see how I could do it any other way than I did. I've seen some really sloppy attempts at emblem paint and didn't want mine to be another sloppy one. Let us know if the rubber cement method works.
