1984 K-5 Blazer "The Monster Truck"

Hey yall, It is time for me to start a new project, and I think I found a great candidate.

The Story- About 15 years ago my (now) stepdad helped his (now) ex Father in law do some work on a k-5 blazer, They slapped a detroit locker in the rear, a spool up front, 4.10 gears, locking hubs, and a 350/th350/NP205 combo in it.

It then recieved an 8 inch lift and 36 inch TSLs and was used as a daily driver/ weekend mudder for awhile.

5 years later it was sold to a friend of my stepdads and the motor was pulled out and 36s pulled off. It then recieved a VERY BUILT 468 BIG BLOCK out of a drag boat, along with 38.5 TSLs. Then the truck was all kinds of crazy, It would pop wheelies, pulling those 38s a foot off the ground.

After awhile the motor was blown and the drivetrain removed... Then it sat under a tree for 6 years...

After selling my bone stock and rusted out k-5 for 1,500 dollars, Me and my Stepdad went to visit the guy with the blazer, upon seeng it, I knew I had to have it, Original Paint, rust free, and BIG. I wound up getting it for a mere 600 dollars. Heres a few Pics.

Getting it onto the trailer

The body is in pretty good shape, but the interior was junk. so after pulling the carpet out I found one of the cleanest floorboards Ive ever seen, except for a small rust hole near the transmission tunnel.

My plans for the truck Is to redo the interior, clean up the th350/np205 combo, and clean up a good running L82 350 out of a corvette for it. I might even paint it one day... Any comments are welcome, thanks for looking. I will start freshening up the motor as soon as I pull it from the Corvette.

so far they have. Thanks for the comments, I pulled the motor from the corvette today to put in the blazer. It will recieve an edelbrock torker 2 intake, headers, holley double pump, but im undecided on the cam. any suggestions?

Heres pics of the motor progress, I think its coming along nicely.

Me and my dumbass buddy pulled the motor out of the vette.. Im not sure what he is doing...

After plucking it from the car we bagan a teardown to shortblock.
http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m...0114111423.jpg

Pulled it down to shortblock, all the cylinder walls and internals are in great shape, so Im gonna leave them alone.

While Im waiting on my cam to come in the mail I decided I would play around with detail painting the motor. This is what i came up with. keep in mind this is just a rough mockup. Ill go back through and doctor some of the other parts during final assembly.

Looks like a cool project. I'd think a little harder about the torker intake. Single planes don't really come on until much higher in the RPM band. If the plan is for a mud racer or similar that intake would work. If it's going to get used for trail riding, general off road duty you'll have big torque deficit off idle that will make it suck to drive.

Re: 1984 K-5 Blazer "The Monster Truck"

that intake is temporary. I wish i could find a better one

thanks alot. Ive seen yours on coloradok5 ( i think) and I like it. I made some progress, I washed all the moss off the k-5 yesterday, and hosed the interior out. it made a world of difference. I am also getting a dual plane intake, and i have yet to order my cam. Ive just been too lazy. I need some motivation lol

Thanks alot man, I think the motor looks preety tough. The blazer looks alot better since I washed it off, whenever we have decent weather ill get some pics... And yeah, Piss on vettes! we have had that one since 1989, when it was nice, It had been sold, trashed, stripped, and returned without the guy paying for it, then it sat as a lawn ornament until I pulled the motor and trans and sold what was left of the car for 250 bucks

Re: 1984 K-5 Blazer "The Monster Truck"

well Heres progress... I need atleast 500 dollars to finish up my green corvette motor, and to be honest im broke... So, after doing some trading I wound up with this...http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m...0220111139.jpg

1985 c-30 with a 350

Now, the reason you are staring at this pile on your computer screen is because I got it for basically free, and It has a good running 350, although the head gasket is seeping. Hell, we even drove it 20 miles to the shop with no problems.

After It arrived at my shop we got busy pulling the motor out, and thats where we stopped today. Tomorow I am going to tear into this motor, replace all the gaskets, do a quickie paint job then throw it in my blazer until I can afford to finish my Green corvette motor. So no matter what there will be progress and this thing will live! heres some more pics of the dually and the 350 2 bbl. Weird combo in a crew cab dually huh?

I believe this was an old choo-choo customs, you can see where it used to have a wing and a visor and some other crap
http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m...0220111140.jpg

the interior is ghetto, but atleast the floors have zero rust. and it has a new steering wheel..
http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m...220111140a.jpg

This is gonna be replaced by either a 12 valve cummins/ 5 speed, or a 454/ 5 speed... hmmm

that air filter reminds me of BeetleJuice....

when he was in the hospital at the end of the movie with a shrunk head.

Now throw that thing away

Re: 1984 K-5 Blazer "The Monster Truck"

haha i know what you are talkin about, but, throw what away? If your talkin about the 2 bbl combo, Im gonna have some fun with it in the blazer, main reason is because its free, and is in great working order. The carb is practcally new, hell I even tuned it before this truck was mine. As soon as i have the funds to finish the more rowdy motor, this one will be pitched aside for sure.

Im replacing the head gaskets on my motor right now. It appears this thing has been rebuilt not too long ago, its bored .030 over, has a 4 bolt main, double roller timing chain, all new freeze plugs, new carb, etc... apparently they just didnt torque the bolts to spec. Im about to take care of that..
