Re: '60 GMC 4x4 Long Fenderside
Full read on this thread and your daughters thread. Life sucks during the big "D", been there myself. Had to steal back my gray '67Camaro too.
Making great progress on the truck. Got me watchin' Subscribed. |
Re: '60 GMC 4x4 Long Fenderside
Thanks Bomp!
I have been following your thread. My son and I both love the idea of stretching the cab like that! We didn't get much done today. We went and got some more parts from 63 Spud this morning. This afternoon we put in the choke cable, finished painting the differential covers, cleaned up and straightened up the garage a bit, and plotted and planned our next step. Almost forgot the kick-butt pulled pork we made today too! YUMMM! Going to work on a friends car tomorrow morning, then hopefully get back to playing in my garage tomorrow afternoon. |

Actually got to spend some time on the truck this weekend.
Took apart the front hubs, cleaned everything up, repacked the bearings, and put it all back together. Here is my son working on his side. He watched me do the first side, and pretty much did his side on his own. Attachment 1018000 We put the differential covers back on, and filled them. We drained the transmission and he transfer case. The fluid in the transmission came out a little dirty, but not too bad. The fluid in the transfer case came out sparkly and full of glitter. So either it is some old fashioned fancy gear oil, or I have a problem! We also had gotten a new transmission hump from 63Spud. Mine was rusted pretty bad. Attachment 1018001 His had an odd hole cut in it. Attachment 1018002 Attachment 1018003 We cut a patch panel out of my original one, and have it ready to weld in next weekend. Attachment 1018004 |
Re: '60 GMC 4x4 Long Fenderside
Hey, that is awesome that you and your son got to work on it together! Also, your patch for the trans hump is nicely done. Keep up the progress whenever you can and cherish those times working with your son.....

Re: '60 GMC 4x4 Long Fenderside
looking good man! heads up when you do the breaks i been finding all the 4x4 parts are only listed under 1960 chevy.
|
Re: '60 GMC 4x4 Long Fenderside
The hole in the trans cover looks like it was for a hand lever emergency brake.
Work on your truck & spend time with your son , life is good. |

not really got some stuff back together and started tearing into the breaks witch has been a head ace so far but i think i about got everything tracked down and figured out now trying to get it road worthy before the snow hits again but we will see cash flow is not very good right now!

Ok, I have been slacking on the updates! We haven't gotten a whole lot more done recently, but here is what we have accomplished.
We have found that every seal on the drivetrain is leaking... all over the floor. So much for putting in new fluid. LOL My son (Chevyman10) came up with a cool custom idea for the glovebox. It had an old wooden cabinet knob under the latch. Attachment 1033236 His idea was that since there was already a hole there, why not take one of the extra gray knobs I had, we used a windshield washer one, cut it down to look right, fill it with epoxy, and make the knob match the rest of the dash. Here is the finished result. Attachment 1033237 Attachment 1033238 We also welded in the patch panel on the trans hump. There are still some pinholes I need to fill, and some low areas, but it is much better than the original one! Attachment 1033239 Attachment 1033240 |
Re: '60 GMC 4x4 Long Fenderside
tell your son i have officially stolen the glove box knob idea looks sweet!

This weekend we were working on the blinker switch. There is a little top hat looking piece of plastic that rides under the metal plate, and against the, squiggly, yes, I think that is the actual technical term for it, piece of metal on the right for the detentes, that is broken. The switch works physically now without it, but I don't have power to it, to see if it actually works.
Attachment 1033261 Attachment 1033262 Also we tore apart the heater controls, to see if we could make one good one using a spare I got from a board member. Turns out that I will still need an additional lever for in side the controls. One of the levers I needed, has a stress crack in it already. Oh well. Anyone have one lying around?? Attachment 1033263 |
Re: '60 GMC 4x4 Long Fenderside
I'll let him know Kro!
|
Re: '60 GMC 4x4 Long Fenderside
If all else fails, LMC does list those levers....

Re: '60 GMC 4x4 Long Fenderside
Got a new Master Cylinder for my truck. I'll just go into parts accumulation mode for a bit, while we work on my son's truck. His is further along, and spending his money for parts is fine by me!
