Sm465 to t5 swap in 4wd gmc jimmy?

Hey guys I'm swapping out my lift kit and 38 inch tires for stock suspension and 30 inch tires and now because of the tire size difference the motor is whining out very high at normal driving speed like 45. It has the a 350 with sm465 with hydraulic clutch/np205 . Has anybody swapped out a sm465 in there 4wd for a t5 out of s10 or Camaro? Is it an easy swap or not? The truck doesn't see any off-road use mostly back and forth to work 30 miles each way.

From the sounds of it, swapping in an overdrive manual tranny will not completely fix your drivability problem. You have some pretty low gears in the axles (high ratio). An overdrive tranny might get you near a 1:1 drive ratio when it is in its overdrive gear. I recommend not spending the time, effort, and money on a T5 swap. Rather spend some money and get your axles re-geared to something like what came in these Blazers originally when equipped with a manual (3.37:1 - I could be off on this number), or if you just want to fly down the highway, go for a set of gears that these Blazers came with when equipped with an auto tranny (3.08:1).

What gear ratio would you guys recommend for mostly in town driving with some highway 30 inch tires on a 72 gmc jimmy 4wd. I don't plan on doing hardly any offroading

the Camaro swap wont be easy at all, the 2wd vehicles had different tailhousing, and buy tailhousing I mean the entire rear of the T5 is different if you get a 2wd T5 only half of that case is going to be usefull. I dont think there was ever a T5 put in any "strong" 4x4's, small blazers and jeeps had them but to my knowledge never a v8.

You have a full-size truck chassis rig, why not look into the more modern full size truck options? I would look at what 5-speed manuals the Silverado or Sierra's used and see if they could be a swap...

the tansmission used in later GM 4x4's (mid - late 90's) was I think the NV3500.

But yea, either way (with or without overdrive) a regear would be a beneficial 1st step...

If you stick will the sm465 I would got with 3.08 or 3.42 gears. I had an 82 chevy short bed with an sm465 trans, axles with 4.10 gears, and 285-75 r16 tires it ran well also drove 70 mph alot on long distance trips.
