94 Suburban to Crew Build: The 50/50 Turban

Well, this is Suburban number two. But it's going to be build number one. This one is a 1994 Chevy Suburban 4x4. This is going to be an almost identical build to the '97. But this one isn't as stripped. No motor, no trans, some of the dash stripped out, door panels stripped, no front seat. BUT, no horrible wiring removed. The '88 is going to become a sacrificial lamb for this build.

The motor and trans are coming out of the '88. A lot of the dash components are coming out of the '88. The bench seat will temporarily be mounted in the front of the Suburban for a temporary front seat. The front suspension that was put under the '88 brand new by me and my dad, is going to go under the front of the Burb. And that's all to make it driveable again. Then down the road, we're gonna hack the back of the Burb and add the back of the '88 cab, and use the back of the '88 frame to extend the Suburban frame out to put a pickup bed on it.

Anyway, here's some pics of the '94 Suburban. Also, the '88 was resurrected to go get this beast.

The '88's first road trip since 2010. Glad to know that it can still go. I'm satisfied. 75 mile drive to Stockton, MO.

Here's the Burb back on the ground, with a temporary right front door.

Well, here's my new beast. Let me know what everyone thinks of the future project, and the truck itself.

I think some time tomorrow, depending on weather, I'm going to get some interior pics.

This is going to be a good build. You have all of the parts to put it together now it just has to get started

This truck looks like a much better starting point!

Yeah. I think if we just get it started and get it over with, it'll be done and on the road in no time.

Maybe a solid axle in its future? would be cool.

I'm not thinking about putting a solid axle suspension in this one, believe it or not. Now, it WILL get a 14-bolt 6-lug rear end in it down the line. But the solid axle conversion will be my dad's.

Here's some pictures of the budget-build shop that this is getting built under:

http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...93490073_n.jpg
Previously used resources: Previously used wood, and previously used tin. But it's gonna work for what we need.

http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...44377082_n.jpghttp://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...52140029_n.jpg

It's not perfect, but like I said. Budget build with used resources...the most expensive part was the nails and the screws. It'll work for what we need, and that's all that matters.

Re: 94 Suburban to Crew Build: The 50/50 Turban

Here's the redneck tip of the day: How to safely remove the back windows of a Suburban without scattering glass everywhere.
http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...51456321_n.jpg
http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...41196014_n.jpg
http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...47458686_n.jpg
http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...42142483_n.jpg
http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...77547316_n.jpg
http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...55866404_n.jpg
http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...17646137_n.jpg

Tape off the entire glass, hit the edge with a hammer, and instant ice taped together lol. Then just slowly break it away at the seam, and peel it off piece by piece. And that's the redneck tip of the day!

Re: 94 Suburban to Crew Build: The 50/50 Turban

Now comes the removal of everything else. We were going to save the rear AC and use it, but due to a previous right rear blowout the truck had, the rear AC lines were toast.
http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...48039118_n.jpg

Rear headliner out.
http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...02971784_n.jpg

Carpet out.
http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...39936385_n.jpg

Now, before I go any further, I would like to take this time to thank the guy who put a new fuel pump assembly on the truck, and then LEFT the wrenches there that were used to do the job. Made it easy to detach the pump from the fuel lines so we could drop the tank.
http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...25588557_n.jpg

Rear AC out, and the cutting begins.
http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...47510126_n.jpg
http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...26241246_n.jpg
http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...13896372_n.jpg

And now the removal of the back half of the Burb. Keeping the ribbed Suburban roof.
http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...53383412_n.jpg
http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...19252551_n.jpg
http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...45727871_n.jpg
http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...42998604_n.jpg

Step 1 is done. Still far from over, though.

Got the rear end dropped today.
http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...94092892_n.jpg
I wasn't aware that the Suburban rear drums were bigger than your average 1/2-ton Chevy rear drums.

Well, it's welded [partially]. It's officially a 4-door Mega Cab as far as I'm concerned.

http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...33697976_n.jpg

Still have to fill in the exterior gaps. But that'll get done soon enough.
Gotta make do with what we have: a Lincoln stick welder, and a Lincoln wire-feed mig. Don't have money for a high-end welder LOL.
