Clutch fork pivot ball clip install
Hello everyone, I just installed a Saginaw 456 into my 68 C10 and can't figure out how to get the clip into place of the pivot ball?

I am going to move this to the "Engine & Drivetrain" forum and see what they say there. It has been long enough ago that I did mine that I can't remember for sure, but I think I installed the clutch fork on the ball before I bolted the bell housing to the engine..... LockDoc |

How about a photo? I was thinking the Z-bar ball not the clutch fork. ???

Re: Clutch fork pivot ball clip install
Did you mean an SM 465, the 4-speed-on-the-floor with compound [Granny] low?
[Actually they're from the Muncie Indiana plant.] The spring clip that holds the clutch fork on the pivot ball is shaped like the Greek letter Omega. It is not flat. You want the open [top of omega] part about 10'o'clock or facing the inside or open claws of the fork... You want the concave part facing you. Set it in the open socket of the clutch fork, so the wire body of the clip fits inside the groove. You can squeeze the 'ears' with needlenose pliers to set it in. Then bop it on the pivot ball with a dead-blow [orange,''clown''] hammer. Should snap right in. |
