700R4 TV setup and pressures (TV Made EZ)
Well, I have put about 3000 miles on this rebuilt 700R4 in my 72 burb since installation and my paranoia got the better of me, so I bought and installed the TV Made EZ system from Bowtie overdrives. (this is not one of their trannys).
So I installed the system at the carb, and also the plunger spring in the tranny (dropped the pan, pulled the old one out and popped this one in). Set it all up per the instructions on the website (printed out and included in the box). All pretty simple. Hooked up my pressure gauge and took all the pressures per their procedure. Called them this morning to check that the pressures were good and thought I would post them here as when I searched I could not find anything concrete. So here goes: (my tranny is a stock rebuild (stage1), with just some strength upgrades): Also checked that I got a pressure spike with a tug on the cable and that I was getting WOT at the carb when pedal was depressed. Transmission pressure at idle with TV cable connected: Park - 75psi Rev - 120psi Neu - 75psi OD - 75psi 3rd - 75psi 2nd - 180psi 1st - 180psi Transmission pressure at idle with TV cable Disconnected: Park - 140psi Rev - 220psi Neu - 140psi OD - 140psi 3rd - 140psi 2nd - 180psi 1st - 180psi Transmission pressure at high idle (1500rpm) with TV cable pulled: Park - 150psi Rev - 240psi Neu - 140psi OD - 145psi 3rd - 155psi 2nd - 180psi 1st - 180psi I haven't driven it yet, but plan to this afternoon. Hope this helps someone who doesn't have access to a tranny guy. |
Re: 700R4 TV setup and pressures (TV Made EZ)
i just ordered one of their kits this week. so i'm interested in how it works out for you.
i bought a trans. from monster transmission. http://monstertrans.com/store/produc...ckage-2WD.html and a Edelbrock Carburetor Throttle Valve Corrector. to say that the TV corrector is a joke is well.... and the adjustment directions are just as bad maybe worse. after 2 whole days trying to get it adjusted i spent another day searching the net for every thing that i could find on adjusting the TV cable and came a cross Bowtie overdrives. after reading every thing i decided to give their kit a try. not sure when i'll have time to install it. but please let me know it worked for you and what you thought of it. Thanks. Dave |

Drove the truck around today and it all seems to work well.
The kit was pretty easy to install....the hardest part was having to drop the tranny pan.... |

Re: 700R4 TV setup and pressures (TV Made EZ)
im in the process of my 700 swap and am doing these pressure tests as well one thing i couldnt help notice about mine is the numbers for pressure with tv cable disconnected are almost half of yours exactly.
p- 70 r- 110 n - 70 od - 70 3 - 70 2 - 180 1 - 180 the numbers for connected and @1500 are the same thought... what does this test show you and why are my numbers so low? anyone have any input? |
Re: 700R4 TV setup and pressures (TV Made EZ)
I am far from being a tranny expert (I actually dislike auto trannys with a passion), but I wonder if the plunger spring has something to do with it. Bowtie Overdrive's instructions are very specific regarding the spring and need to put their longer spring in the tranny if it is not one of their builds....

along with other parts ordered a new longer spring was installed into the tv plunger..im going to post some questions in my old thread for some input on other issues im having as well

With a minimum pump pressure in park of 70 psi...I would shoot for 72 psi to 73 psi with the cable connected at low idle. Quote:

Re: 700R4 TV setup and pressures (TV Made EZ)
I have one on mine as well. I "think" I have it setup right, after I installed it I put the pressure gauge on it, but it was so erratic I couldn't get a solid reading. BUT I just figured out my timing was way off and made the truck run rough. Now that I got that sorted out I was thinking about hooking it up again.
So I guess my question is did you get a solid reading on the gauge when you hooked yours up? |
Re: 700R4 TV setup and pressures (TV Made EZ)
Not rock solid, but enough to get a close reading within 5 psi or so.....

Re: 700R4 TV setup and pressures (TV Made EZ)
Thanks I hooked mine back up today and the readings were much more solid. Must have been my timing issue causing the gauge to freak. Anyway here are my idle readings:
With connected: P 80 R 130 N 80 D 80 3 80 2 160 1 160 Disconnected: P 80 R 125-130 (this one was bouncing a bit more with disconnected) N 80 D 80 3 80 2 160-170 (this one was bouncing a bit more with disconnected) 1 160-170 (this one was bouncing a bit more with disconnected) I wonder why ours are so different when disconnected? Mine are more in line with Scum1's. |
Re: 700R4 TV setup and pressures (TV Made EZ)
would 85 be a good reading when disconnected?"P"

Its on the high side for a stock trans, But Its not out of reason, Try toggling the TV cable a few times, If it comes down the TV plunger or TV valve was not returning. |
Re: 700R4 TV setup and pressures (TV Made EZ)
I've done that. And had them normal temp
