I have heard of them, and seen a couple over the years. Came out in 1957, gone in 1961. Didn't have conventional gears, sort of a hydrualic CVT, similar to the Buick Dynaflow. Troublesome, expensive, and rare. Not sure how easy it would be to find parts and rebuild one today.

Funny thing about them, they didn't have a 'low'. Just 'Drive' and a 'retard' position for engine braking.

Not used in any trucks outside of the El Camino.

Yeah, not all that common. I can imagine they would be tough to get parts for. I wouldn't use one unless it came with the car, and I wouldn't rebuild it when it let go, unless it was a 100 point car at a concours...which I would never own.

You know, it would be kind of neat if someone built a 'what if' truck. Say a high option 1958 Cameo or Fleetside with a 348 and Turboglide.
