I took the bed apart and had it media blasted. There where two small rust holes in the bed floor that needed repaired. I also had to fix rust on the driver side bottom wheel well. I did all the body and paint work.

Thats a really nice original truck you have there. Should make for an easy resto. You going back original or are you restoring it?

I am going to keep it mostly stock. No body modifications but I am putting on lowered spindles and dropping the rear between 3-4 inches. I have new chrome bumpers, aluminum grill pieces and the stock mirror for the drivers door. No more western style mirrors. I am going to run the stock hubcaps on wider rims though. Just haven't decided what color to paint the rims, white like the hubcaps or body color. They were originally black from the factory.

I must say that I've never been a fan of baby blue, but that is just going to look awesome when you get it done. I like that you are keeping it relatively stock too. I'll be watchin this one!

Put the tailgate on and it doesn't fit well. It sticks out about 3/8 of an inch above the taillights. The driver side is the worst. I still need to color sand and buff the gate. I cleared over top of the CHEVROLET stickers and it looks awesome. It is a Tri-Plus tailgate the original is pretty bent and dented but I still have it becuase it is rust free.

I was looking for a step side when I came across this truck and had to buy it. I'm not crazy about the color either but it's growing on me.

That is going to be very nice when its done. Youre doing exactly what I would if it were mine. Minor mods and improvements, but overall leaving the truck true to its original form. Also I hate finding out panels dont want to go back on the way they came off AFTER getting everything painted, a real pain. Now I mock up the panels on every step and it helps out with final assemply.

Buffed and polished the outside quarters and tailgate today after work. I had help from a co-worker so it only took 2 hours. Looks awesome turned out pretty nice for a welder like myself doing all of the body work and paint.

I had to paint the bulkhead, outside quarters, one wheel house twice. The other wheel house and tailgate got painted three times. I will be an expert by the time this truck is finished.

I am going to install the lights and wiring then the bed will be put into storage at my uncle's house. I'm going to tackle the front clip next. I am going to take a month off first though and do some quad riding and get my bike ready for some cruising.

Finally finished the bed after 16 months. I did take a break from May til' November though. I put the light housings, new wiring harness, and NOS light lens with new gaskets and stainless screws.

My uncle pick me up four more hubcaps from last week when he went to Lowes Motor Speedway. All four were 20 dollars, two of them are really nice.

i went and checked my factory gate and it sticks out at least an 1/8 of an inch, hits the bump stops and everything, no adjustment can be made unless i modify the truck which is what i will do later.
