95 One Ton Dually. What Kind of Gas Mileage?
I'm from the 73-87 board. I'm looking at a 95 one ton dually, 454, auto, 3.73 gears. What kind of gas mileage am I looking at? I'm guessing 13 or so. Does that sound about right? Thanks

13 would be doing good on the highway. Expect 7-12 or 13 depending how you drive it.

Re: 95 One Ton Dually. What Kind of Gas Mileage?
1 ton dually's & gas mileage don't compute.
But if you tow something, the bad MPG stays about the same with or without. Hence...... dual tanks...... stock..... I had an '80 4-door dually..... Had a Mercruiser HP big block in it. About 4 gallons to the mile (it seemed)..... But could it burn rubber!! |
Re: 95 One Ton Dually. What Kind of Gas Mileage?
I had a buddy that claimed he 18mpg in a 1 ton dually, but my guess would be more like 10-13.

Bias ply tires all around made for better mileage.
You just can't be concerned about gas mileage when you choose to purchase a 1Ton dually, since most have a 454. I used the truck hauling 36' plus, racing, off-shore powerboats. The other issue was braking, down a long grade......with 10+ tons, including the massive trailers. That's a whole new thread. |
Re: 95 One Ton Dually. What Kind of Gas Mileage?
Thanks guys, I've had some big blocks but never a TBI. So I was just curious. I have a big pontoon boat that is tough to pull out of the water. I really like this dually but I probably need to lean towards a newer half ton 4x4. I have to drive about 250 miles to the lake. The boat is there, so I don't have to tow it far, just pulling it up a wet slick ramp is more than my little 85 can handle. I'm trying to justify buying this dually cause it's such a cool truck, but I'm afraid $50-80 a trip more on gas isn't a good justification.

I love my dually,it's a 94 4x4 350.That said,if I had to drive it very far,on any kind of a regular basis,I'm certain I'd hate it.

What tranny? Could/should be a 4L80E.

Re: 95 One Ton Dually. What Kind of Gas Mileage?
A guy came and picked up an engine from me a couple of nights ago. Showed up in a '92 dually. It had a 350 with a 5 speed and was a 2 wheel drive. Without me even asking he started bragging about getting 17mpg.

I get 12-13 all around, 15 down hill with tail wind.

why, in the world would anyone want a 1ton dually or not with a 350? the power to weight ratio would be terrible.

Re: 95 One Ton Dually. What Kind of Gas Mileage?
It's actually not bad at all.My 4x4 dually only weighs in about 600lbs. heavier than a light GVW 3/4 ton,and that's with a hydraulic dump flatbed on it.

Theres been a bunch of 2 ton trucks,lime trucks,dump trucks,etc. with 350s.

Re: 95 One Ton Dually. What Kind of Gas Mileage?
i guess a 350 works in a pinch not knocking you there. but given the option would you prefer more motor especially for towing up hill?
