BABA YAGA! 1974 Bel Air Concept...
2 Attachment(s)
Well, when I sold off all the 1974 Internationals, including the step-side my daughter wanted for her high school senior ride... I had to promise to find and fix up a 1956 Bel Air. I had a '56 Hard Top but lost it during the Jimmy Carter 22% Interest Rate Recession.
So, in keeping with that theme, I was thinking and playing around, not necessarily a good thing, and figured why not make BABA YAGA! a 1974 Bel Air and match it to my daughters car? So... this is my initial prototype 'on paper' so to speak... I think it has potential. Will have to massage it a bit, but it's not in the "I hate it" category at the moment. '56 molding should break on the cab behind the door but haven't gotten the right look yet and don't want to butcher the molding too much, so it could just end up on the bed side. Now if I could just move the gas tank filler tube inside the drivers side taillight housing and put the gas tank between the rails where the spare tire is.... I could really mess up the gas jockeys and have people wondering just what truck it is..... All those years hanging around Bob Selix's shop took its toll! |
Re: BABA YAGA! 1974 Bel Air Concept...
I saw do it. The renderings have serious potential.

Re: BABA YAGA! 1974 Bel Air Concept...
I like the red and white better but thats just me.If you want you could always have the moldings paint on vs trying to make them fit the truck.

Re: BABA YAGA! 1974 Bel Air Concept...
I think it will be a very interesting look! One suggestion I will make is to not get bogged down in fabricating moldings and spend the money on a good airbrush artist. I have seen this done on different vehicles in 55-57 styles and a couple square body car haulers with 55-61 Corvette cove moldings airbrushed on. Chip.

I wounder how a '56 dash, sliced and diced, would look... probably start looking like Johnny Cash's "One Piece at a Time" Cadillac... |

Good Morning,
This was an idea I had back a few years ago for my truck. Haven't done it yet but I thought it would be very interesting as I have always liked the lines of the tri 5's and the '56 lines seem to fit nicely. If I ever have enough money to have it done I'm going with it. So I say do it! God Bless, Terry |

What about doing it as a wrap instead of airbrushing it?

Still tweaking the design. Moved the top molding back a bit... (maybe too much????) and added a graphic. Might use the same graphic on the tail gate as well.

Re: BABA YAGA! 1974 Bel Air Concept...
try your second version above, with the cab topped in white.
might be too much... |

Re: BABA YAGA! 1974 Bel Air Concept...
Looks good, stop the white at the side window level though.

Perfect, that looks better than I pictured in my head.

Re: BABA YAGA! 1974 Bel Air Concept...
I really like the idea and I prefer the red roof version with the white getting up only on the bedsides... Maybe some old "Chevrolet" lettering from the 50's would look good instead of the bel air sign...

Re: BABA YAGA! 1974 Bel Air Concept...
Super_Dave Did you make the outline of the truck for your template or did you get it somewhere?

The dash if you take your time it could look good,Someone on here swapped a 59 impala dash that looked factory when done.

Re: BABA YAGA! 1974 Bel Air Concept...
There was a 89-98 version of this I used to pass, on my way to moms house. It was an extended cab with the same type paint scheme. It had the airbrushed chrome trim like was mentioned above. I'll look on the net, maybe I can find a pic if it was produced by Choo Choo customs or simular outfit. I like it, I like to be different!

:chevy: Have you set your mind on the colors yet because I saw a 56 that was somekind of charcoal/dark grey and white and it really stood out! |

I am not set on colors yet... will eventually have to dial something in; especially if some of the work projects in the pipeline come to fruition... could be ready this time next year. |
Re: BABA YAGA! 1974 Bel Air Concept...
I like the trim further back on the bed like your second version
|
Re: BABA YAGA! 1974 Bel Air Concept...
I say the orange one and run steel rims with the bel air hub caps if you can pull that off.

I really like the grey and white with the black trim ! This color combo could really go through time without looking out of style. |

Like the red and white, how about a silver and blue like Jimmy Johnsons Lowes 48 car, great color combo ;)

I would go with no drop and stock wheels and hub caps to complete the look:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1956-CHEVROL...-/291441467617 Maybe even wide white wall tires. |

Might try putting the company logo on the door... maybe not. I really hate to say this, but the more I look at it, the more it grows on me... I will be sunk once my daughter sees the WW's. She thinks they belong on everything. This is becoming a design-by-committee project! Might be fun to see where it goes. Never thought of turning the design over to a bunch of yahoo's with grease under their fingernails...;) |
Re: BABA YAGA! 1974 Bel Air Concept...
That had a nice look to it. I still like the upkick on the chrome to start later on the bed, and the white cab top.
|
Re: BABA YAGA! 1974 Bel Air Concept...
Excellent.
I am about ready to sign off on the design - just need to see how the rear tail lights will be handled - grafted 56 Chevy lights in place of stock wrap around square tail lights? 56 hood ornament would be nice. http://www.ebay.com/itm/56-CHEVY-CHR...odel%3ABel+Air https://us-mg6.mail.yahoo.com/neo/la...l=1#5098595641 Of course, you don't want to go overboard. |

As for the white top... I'm still not sure about that. I kinda want to keep the emphasis on the swoosh fill color and not take the eyes away too soon or have them bounce around the truck too fast. |
