¿....such a thing as a Vic Hickey edition Blazer??

Hey guys, the reason I ask is cus I recently got first dibs on a '72 Blazer part out. I got the axle truss, white spoke wheels, brush guard and roll bar.

I'm 99.99% sure the roll bar and axle truss are Vic Hickey, and it appears the wheels are too. They aren't the average white spoke wheels you normally see. These are beefed up, 8 spoke and 15x8, (10?) 6 lug.

The brush guard looks like what's offered in the VH catalog I got from a posting on here.
And as I think back, the Blazer also had spare in cab tanks, but I didn't grab those >:!

I guess the reason I'm asking is cus with all these options on it, could it have been a VH edition....or did some guy just go all out with his catalog order...lol

Oh yeah...I'll post pics tomorrow.

Yup. I got the 4x4 handbook and it's got a Blazer on the cover. It looks like that one.

I don't have the book with me, but I'm sure someone here has it.

Hickey always had great shop trucks to showcase the product lines.
Doub't there were ever special editions beyond dealer assembled showroom floor traffic trucks. Here are pictures from a 75 catalog.
The eight spoke wheels might be Jackman brand. They had heavy centers and would have a "J" stamped into a spoke.

This is the route I am taking with my Jimmy. Got the low hood, brush guard, axle cover, roll bar, and sidewinder and still trying to find more. The west coast is where it is all at, and does a number on the shipping wallet. Trevor

Hickey was pretty much just a catalog company, most all there items were the same as you got from JC Whitney, they had a few items that carried the company logo but those were out sourced by companies like Cal Custom and Trans Dapt. I've got a bunch of their catalogs including ones for the Bronco, Scout and Ramcharger.

Yeah,he joined up here a few years back. There were no special Hickey edition Blazers. Back then people built their own stuff. Conversion companies kicked in later on when vanning got big. There were other companies doing lines of off road equipment such as Dick Cepek,Desert Dynamics, and even Hooker. I had a bunch of pictures of the race truck, but only found these two...

My dad claimed they had a 73 Hickey Edition Blazer, they lived in California at the time, now it is possible some dealers put the parts on them and released them.

His recollection it was a Bob Hickey but they traded it off in 79 (along with a 75 skylark) for a SWB C10 and a Formula Firebird (with the olds motor) the 79 was traded in to get the 82 i'm working on now lol.

I had a '72 Blazer till last year that I bought in '83. It was from New Mexico. It had no lift,11-15 RWOL Honcho tires mounted on chrome smoothies,swing-away spare tire/Jerry can carrier, gas tank and t-case skid plates, tow hitch, steel security console, roll bar,and auxiliary tanks in the back inside, and axle trusses. All aftermarket installed by the original owner, either himself or at a shop. This was a typical desert Blazer from back then

You hit the nail right on the head.. That's how it was done back then.. There were a ton of aftermarket parts. and everybody built them how they wanted them.. A lot to do with how thick their wallet was at the time.. All the part from the old books sound so low priced.. But when your only making 4.00 an hour.. it was still high. and 4.00 an hour was big money back then.

I've been building my own Hickey Edition Blazer for the last 20 years. Mine looks a bit like the one pictured, but with more Hickey stuff and more other era correct aftermarket stuff. I use my Blazer in the deserts of southern California and Mexico, and all of the stuff gets used like it was intended. If it doesn't have a purpose, I won't add it on. Well, that's not entirely true, I would rock a set of Blazer Feathers decals if I ever had the chance to buy a set!

I have a neighbor that has a Feather Foot Blazer. My buddies don't think they exist. I haven't been able to find out anything about them. I could swear I've seen then in the past .

I believe I may have recently bought the 1969 Hickey built Baja1000 Blazer. It is very similiar to the aug 1969 popular hot rodding cover. Mine has had a front bumper and grill guard installed later and somebody rigged plexiglass for windshield so it could be driven on street However it has dual coilover mounts that look factory (riveted), the roll bar is fully integrated, the truck never had windows or armrests because panels don't have holes. There are no holes to mount the top, The motor is very high performance, has trans and pwr steering coolers, front disk brakes, possibly even the sponge Hickey steering wheel and lucas spotlight is still there. It has been sitting about 20 years. I bought it for parts because the body is straight except fender and my 71 needs rockers and other work. I was going to drop motor and trans into my 75 Monza because it's stock motor is a slug. Until I confirm one way or another if this in fact a Hickey built Blazer I have stopped tearing it apart and put my plans on hold. If anybody knows how many of these 69 blazers were done because I believe a couple in So Cal has one as well i would appreciate any input or info. Here's a couple of pics. I will take additional pics of undercarriage later next week. thanks, Michele

Those door parts are extremely rare, and fairly valuable. The door panels and caps for the top delete.

That is an intriguing Blazer. Is there any way to track ownership history through the DMV?
