66 step pro street build

Starting the build on my 66 step.Try to keep up with pics as the build moves along. As they say on tv let the tear down begin.!! Should end up flat black ,slammed, with monster meat in the back, and a 540ci motor in the front.!!!

Re: 66 step pro street build

The motor was in my race car,it's a gm 502 block bored 4.5.Ohio crank forged rotating assy.
I will have to swap the pistons out they JE 14.1 42cc dome.I will go with 10.5 11.00 cr pistons for the street.rhs alum heads 2.30 intake and 1.88 eh. ferria ss valves.lunait solid cam,738-756 with 292 dur. and 4/7 swap.Merlin x intake with a 1050 dom. carb.built it myself two years ago.Ran 5.60 in the 1/8 mile with a 2600 lb 76 camaro.Got tried of racing and wanted to get back to playing on the street some ,should be able to do both with the truck.!!!! Think i will leave the 12 bolt in it,unless I can find a good dana 60.I know some of the 67/72 trucks had a dana in them. The motor is all studded mains and heads with arp studs.I have some build pics of the motor if you would like to see.

Oh....I like where this one's going!! This is going to one serious machine.

I'm a big fan of Pro Street. All of the magazines have said for years that it was out of style, but not in my world. A nasty motor, fat meats in the rear, and a ground-hugging stance is my definition of a hot rod.

Re: 66 step pro street build

How much weight are you gonna have to plant in the back to keep that thing hooked to the street?

contagious102 11-11-2012 09:48 AM

Re: 66 step pro street build

Going to use coil over shocks in the rear i think, and if I can get a little weight transfer with the right set up in the front might work ok.Going for the WOW factor more than anything.!!Thanks for the brackets captain fab.!!Here are a few pics of the motor build.

Re: 66 step pro street build

The engine looks great. Nothing like a big cubic-inch big block to get the job done. I couldn't help but notice that your Camaro was painted just like the old Reher-Morrison Pro Stock from back in the day. I still have a T-shirt that Lee Shepherd signed that has that car on it. That guy could sure drive, and he was a whiz at cylinder heads.

I have to say that even here in the desert of Southern California, I have yet to see a truck as solid as yours. That thing is amazing.

contagious102 11-11-2012 11:28 PM

Re: 66 step pro street build

The amazing part is the truck was built in Atlanta, and sold in in ga. to a fellow here in Alabama, where it stayed for the last 46 years and still looks that good.!!! I'm a lucky man.!!
Even swap the race as a roller (no motor or trans ) for the truck.Southern trucks should not be that nice.Only had 80.000 miles on it.drove it three weeks 120 miles, round trip with the a/c so cold had to keep it on low.!!!
And yes the car was built as a Reher-Morrison Pro Stock Clone.
