What master cylinder for rear disc swap?
 

My '71 C10 is about to get all new brakes. Front will be stock rotors with '79 C30 calipers with 3 5/32" Pistons. Rear will be CaptainFab's D52 conversion with Astro rotors and '78 Eldorado calipers. I'll be keeping the stock booster, and as far as the prop. valve goes I'll be upgrading to the wilwood 260-11179, but I'm unsure on what master cylinder to use. The things I do know is the MC will need to be 1.125" bore (which is same as stock MC now), and it will obviously need a bigger reservoir than stock, but I haven't come across any master cylinders that specifically state they are for 4 wheel disc applications. I've been thinking about the wilwood 260-13270 MC, but don't wanna spend big bucks on a MC if I don't need to. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated. Thanks, Zach

Someone can correct me if I wrong, but Corvettes have had 4 wheel disc. for years, couldn't you use one of those. I believe both front and rear bowls are the same size, should look something like this pic...Jim

I would talk to wilwood see what size master cylinder you need.

Not sure why I never thought about a corvette master cylinder. I did a little research on them, found that 65-up corvettes came with 4 wheel disc brakes. 65 & 66 still had single bail MC's while 67-up came with dual bail. 67-76 used the same P/N MC, and 77-82 used a different P/N MC. I'm not sure what the difference is between the 67-76 & the 77-82 because they are the same physical size and have the same specs, but it sounds like either one of them would work for me. As for the aftermarket MC's such as Wilwood or SSBC I don't really see any advantage to those over a stock one.

I'll have to use a 1.125" master cylinder since the 1" & smaller are only for manual brakes and won't have enough fluid volume for rear discs.

mid 70's corvette. plentiful and cheap.

M/C from a 78 Corvette w/ power brakes. I put a wilwood prop valve on the rear and no metering/stock prop valve and it worked great.

Hey big red, I know this is an old post but I have the same irrational and wondering if the mid 70s corvette master cylinder worked for you?

I'll be converting the rear drums over to disc and while the installation seems pretty straight forward my concern is if I'll be able to reuse the existing brake lines and just add a propotioning valve?

I'm a noob when it comes to brakes, master cylinder, booster, prop valves...I guess anything brake related lol.
