Throw out bearing length?

1 Attachment(s)
My truck: 1967 Chevy K10, 327, sm465, np205. I need to replace my throw out bearing. I ordered a new one from my local auto parts store. When I compared it to my old one the length was different. They only showed one bearing from mid 60's thru the later 70's .

My old bearing (on left)=1.875" (I dont know if this was proper)
New bearing (on right)=1.255"
In classic industries they show that all bearings are 1 7/32 or 1.21875 tall.

What is the proper height for my application.

Re: Throw out bearing length?

Napa shows the old one as a six cylinder TO bearing and the new one for the 327,
It doesn't look like the new one is the same diameter as the old one. See how it fits in the shift fork. If you put the short one in it may hit the pressure plate before it releases the clutch.

If you did not change the pressure plate you must use the same type that was in there. The long one is the oloder style. It fits the pressure plate with the recessed fingers that are parralell to the flywheel & disc. It should be available at any parts store.

Here are a few pictures of my pressure plate and clutch. The fingers are almost parallel to the clutch. This one is the same diameter as the other where the fork mounts and inside diameter.

It sounds like I need to return this shorter one and get the older style/longer one from napa. Let me know if anything does not seem right.

Re: Throw out bearing length?

Just to finish this thread. My old, tall bearing is a #CT1086H. Car quest cross referenced it to #1697-C. They are the same other than the bearing outer diameter is slightly smaller, but everything else is the same. I did not buy it because it cost $40, I am cheap and a new clutch, pressure plate and bearing cost ~ 100 at summit. When I replace it, it will be everything. Until then I live with a little rattle.

On another post it was said that the long bearings are for the multi fingered diaphragm clutch and the shorter one is for the bord beck style. This does not make sense to me being that most clutches that I have seen are diaphragm style and the parts stores are selling short styles?

I just wanted to include a few part numbers if it helped anyone in their own parts search.
