Refurbishing Sport Buckets few questions.
 

Hello,
I've got my sport buckets down to the frames. Whats a good way to reinforce a lower rear corner sheet metal due to some rust issues, metal is still intact but thinner? What is the recommended gauge to use for zig zag springs? How to add lumbar support? Thanks Roy

I did mine a couple of years ago
My frames were in good shape...I just sandblasted them and painted
I got my covers and foam from LMC....the covers were PUI and the foam was from Dashes Direct...good quality
I bought springs on eBay...8 gauge on the bottom and 11 gauge on the backs
I put burlap cloth between the springs and foam on the bottom
They turned out great...nice and firm
I didn't take many pictures but I will be happy to help any way I can

Great info, Thanks. Can't wait for mine to look like that:) Mine have surface rust, am planning on soaking in Evaporust, then prime and paint. I was wondering about going heavier on the springs, thanks for the confirmation.

Did your seat cover kit come with the fabric tentioner parts in addition to hog rings?

I think it came with hog rings and some cheap pliers....my neighbor had some better pliers....you will need to get the wire that goes in the cover to pull them into position and tighten them down
I bought some spring steel wire but it was very stiff and hard to fit into the sleeves on the covers.The wires that came out of the old covers was not usable.
I bought the zig zag springs on Ebay in a roll....I had to cut them and bend the ends to retain them in the frame.

I restore Benchseats for the 73-87 trucks. I have only done one set of Buckets seats, 1970 GTO. One thing I can tell you, Bucket seats are not that easy, hard on the hands. When I did the buckets for the first time, I watched a lot of videos on YouTube, that helped a lot.
The wire in the cover, that make the tucks. Those are called listing wires. It’s best to get those where they are wrapped. It helps protect the cover from wear. Do a search on Google for Upholstery Supplies. There are several good online places to get all your supplies, that would even include the frame springs.
And I second that on the hog hing pliers, get a good set. The cheap ones that they send with your upholstery kit aren’t worth the trouble.

I didn't know what they were called...?
I did get some of the wrapped wire...but I used it to tie across the bottom springs to keep them in line.....
I got clamps that were supposed to clamp the wire to the springs but they were too big.
I ended up just wrapping the wire around the zigzag springs....it seems to work OK.
Here you can see the paper wrapped wire....maybe should have used a couple more? I'm not an upholstery guy...
