Condition of these rear brakes?
3 Attachment(s)
This is a ground up restoration on a 71 C-10. I've never done a rear brake job, but I'll pull the rear brakes today.
Question is, from your observation, should I replace these parts? There is no visual damage, including the well of the brake drums. The rear brakes were replaced some time ago, but since then I'm guessing there's just 3-4K miles on this truck. Maybe I just answered my own question;), but still interested in opinions. From my angle, just clean what I've got & maybe paint the drums. Thank you |
Re: Condition of these rear brakes?
On another note, anyone aware of a parts diagram for the rear brakes on these Chevy's? I see some on the web for "typical" and other vehicles. If not, I may make one myself....................just as soon as I've identified all the parts (yikes).

Re: Condition of these rear brakes?
Looks like you have plenty of shoe material left. Inspect the cylinder for leaks. Inspect the rubber hose for cracks or other wear. If those look good I say leave them as-is for now based on the pictures.

Re: Condition of these rear brakes?
That picture you took is better than a drawing of the brakes. What you have looks fine. I would also recommend the checks above and run em.

Re: Condition of these rear brakes?
Yeah like said if no wheel cylinders and axle seals are leaking id leave them alone everything looks almost new to me.

Re: Condition of these rear brakes?
need a head on view of the brakes that hit the drum face . how close to the rivets or cracking .
right side pic is missing the adjuster arm push up spring . and lower hold together spring looks to be out of the hole . the one just above the adjuster. diagram = only do 1 side at a time . there a flip flop of each other . |
