spring perches on a tapered sleeve rearend ?
I came across a ford 9 in. rearend which is the same width and bolt pattern as my chev truck but the rear has tapered sleeve . Could you notch the spring perches to fit and weld them in. I,m just asking cause I don,t know how precise this has to be. Is there some room for error or does it have to be absolute perfect. I don,t really want to put new tubes on. The rear end has new gears and bearings with the right gear ratio I,ve been wanting

Re: spring perches on a tapered sleeve rearend ?
As long as the perches are square, plumb, & the gaps are not excessive, notching for the different dimensions on the axle tube should not be an issue (especially when welding them).
Do try & minimize the amount of heat soak on the tubes (cold wet rags help). |

My Ford 9 has some taper on the tubes. It isn't as much as it looks when you are fitting the perches (tabs in my case) to it. Just take your time when grinding and check often. You should be fine.
