Door Skin Feedback

I know these questions get asked all the time and always get the same answer, “all repop stuff comes from the same place” But I still would really like to hear from those that have used the full door skin panels and what manufacturer sticker was on it.

I recently replaced a door skin with a Counterpart panel and it was pretty brutal. The 2 main body lines were easily 1/2” off from my cab lines so I had to make my cut between the 2 to maintain decent lines. The overall profile of the door is pretty bad too.

Wondering if anyone has luck with Triplus or Goodmark skins? I’m talking the full one, not the 12” high one. Thanks!👍

Repro sheetmetal is the absolute last resort!

That's all I know!

Agreed. But finding a door that isn’t rotted in Canada is not easy.

I hear you, then how about not replacing the whole skin? Either making or buying a patch panel or if one isn't available buying that repro skin and using the bottom foot of it, and tossing the rest in the garbage?

This is one thing I see often people will have a few inches of rust and get a patch panel that is a foot tall and using the whole thing instead of just replacing what is rusted.

Now understand, I am talking in generalities here, I have no idea what so ever how bad your rust is and all that. I am just referring to what I often see on the net.

I grew up in Regina and can assure you that the farm trucks (plentiful) in your area are dryer than most in all of North America. I'm on Kijiji daily and see trucks in your area that show potential so maybe there's a door or two nearby?

Post some pictures... we all like pictures.:metal:

I couldn’t agree more, I’m a strong believer in leaving as much original sheet metal as possible...less chance of me warping something too. Problem is this door has a little damage further up that was crudely pulled and bondo’d, the big skin will replace it. But if I can’t get any positive feedback on a companies skin, I’ll just keep searching for a better door.

Haha yeah well I’ve seen a couple but it’s tough to justify buying an entire grain truck for a door. But I’m working on a deal right now and may be able to avoid the door skinning.

Yeah the yellow one is old and the green is pre 64, it has the wrap around windshield.

I drove to Vibank this morning intending to buy all the sheetmetal off this c60 cuz the guy said the doors and hood were minty. Well the corners were rotted and full of blue bondo.

I’ll be honest, I’ve looked at a ton of trucks while out hunting around here and have yet to see one that wasn’t rusted in the door corners and fenders. And even if ya find one, how long til starts bubbling? I am more interested in replacing the skin with fresh metal and was wondering if anybody had luck with certain replacement skins.

Any pics of this process? Did the skins have any crown or did you make them completely flat across?

Don't have pics of the metal in the slip roll or brake. Only these
I stretched my cab 5". Was going to stitch the door on the center seam. Old skin removed you can see other previous repairs so decided going with a clean new skin was an obvious choice.

Damn! That is some clean work man. Lines look really good ... I can’t imagine the work that would go into that project. Redoing a stock cab is a lot of work.

I don’t do custom sheetmetal so I’m just gonna order ipa Tri-Plus skin and hopefully it’s better than the Counterpart. I’ll post up some pics of how it lines up.

Impressive work, that turned out great.

In my experience Counterpart was bottom of the heap as far as body lines on cab corners, Tri-plus seemed like a nice step in quality. Not sure if those properties will transfer over to door skins buy it might be worth a shot at a different brand

Bomp - that is some impressive manufacturing skills. Those door skins look really nice! Those are skills that don’t come over night.

I have a build thread. Its not much. The one with over 300,000 hits was a victim of the Poopoobucket photo hostage ordealio.

Thought I had deleted all the pictures of how the Counterpart skin lines up with the cab but found one. The tape shows where the body lines are.

I should have my TriPlus skin from Bills truck shop tmrw and interested in seeing if it fits any better.
