Ls swap donor...what's needed?
I just recently acquired an 01 2500hd with 6.0 and 4l80 tranny. What all do I need to pull off the donor truck to do the swap. Momma doesn't want this truck sitting in our driveway long(body is very rough)! Please help don't want to get rid of anything I'll need.

Engine
Engine wiring harness Transmission ECM / PCM Gas Pedal Air Intake if your going to use the stock one Might as well keep the fuse block under the hood Overflow tank Mechanical fan if your going to run that On my swap I'm trying to make it look 100% stock under the hood. Other people have done custom air intakes and electric fans. Also is the truck going to be 4wd or 2wd in the end? Good luck, Nick |

If you really want to get everything you can off it it then add throttle cable, cruise control box and cable, rear view mirror and temp sensor/wiring, I used a bunch of the exhaust piping to build my exhaust as well. 7pin trailer wiring, hitch may be able to be used. Saw a post here where someone used the rear brake calipers with a custom bracket. Apparently door molding can be used. Some have used the front bench seat or buckets.

Re: Ls swap donor...what's needed?
I have an 01 1500 sitting in my driveway for the same purpose and it has been there for a year and 4 months, my wife is not impressed. I am very close to getting the engine swap part of the project completed, I have to install the wiring loom I cleaned up on my own and run fuel lines and I should be done with the donor truck.
From the donor truck I have used the engine and trans, the power steering cooler, trans cooler, trans lines, wiring harness for the engine, the fuse block. I am going to try and use the in cab section of the wiring for the cruise, cluster, & obdII. I also used the radiator air intake, coolant overflow, computer mount, cruise control box off the fire wall, and throttle cable. Before I junk the truck I am going to snag the front seats to retrofit and I am going to see if the carpet will fit (I have a high hump). Other things to consider are maybe the fuel door (if you plan to put the tank out back) and the cruise switch from the turn indicator if you are going to install cruise. good luck |
