Yeah, I've been really good this year, which isn't normal:lol:

Do you think my cable is long enough to reach from the green trails?

Hey, any of your input on mounting would be great, I was checking out the universal mount. I would like to keep as much of the bumper as possible

Done correctly, you should be able to keep all the bumper.

Re: PO has me PO'd

Sorry, I was just sitting back and reading everyone else's progress(just enjoying the ride) forgot I was supposed to be building a truck. But, I ain't goin' to lie to ya, it was a nice break with the Holidays and Family

So, while I wasn't doin' anything, I was spending money! Picked up a Cruise, and finally found my seat tracks(drivers side) for the utility seats, now I can mount the seat up on the passenger side, and a Quadrajet carb...Oh yeah, I also bought a R/C Helicopter, pretty cool, I haven't hit the Christmas tree YET

After 3 weeks of thought and moving and rearranging and more thought, I finally have a plan to mount up my winch/with stock bumper. It will have a cradle of sorts under the plate that will hold the winch(warn model 8000), plus be bolted to the forward crossmember, frame rails and front bumper at each side of the license plate bump out. Today I actually made a pattern for the cradle, so once my new bumper bolts get here I can put the bumper on and start the final mock up

Pics to follow, before I get one of those blasted "this thread is worthless w/o pics" slogans

OK. now it's your turn to get back to work:lol:

Still have to make the bend for the bumper, sure wish steel bent like aluminum. Hole in crossmember makes for an ideal mounting point. Also planning to drill out a rivet in the leaf spring mount for the plate to bolt in...Sheesh, someday I have to paint the frame, that looks like crap

still have to build the bracket to mount the tank to the battery box, but this location seems to be the best

Kurt is right, as usual, you can fit a mounting plate for the winch and retain the stock bumper

Changed direction again! I think is the final fitment

Looks like I will have to make a cut out on my plate, so the winch feet have metal to bolt to. Thank goodness for the license plate bump out

what size is that lower plate? looks like it was made to go there... what about your lower pan for th 67-68 nose?

jaros44sr 01-18-2010 03:32 PM

Re: PO has me PO'd

Scrap alum. I had laying around, still in the mock up. When it comes time to put the 1/4" plate in, I may have to cut the frame horns behind the bumper and slide it straight in from the front...dunno yet

I don't have the lower pan, but I may just cut it and use the outside pcs., I'm not using the center grille support either

I only have one issue with mounting the winch behind the bumper, engaging it. Do you plan on just running it out with the remote when you use it or reaching under (or over if the hoods up) to get at it?? Other than that I really like the idea.

Didn't know you could use the remote to let out the cable, I'll have to look into that. I was thinking of cutting the lever off and extending it up, but lifting the hood is no big issue as I have to watch it spool up, you can't see it behind the grille

Thanks J for watching

No need to open the hood, all you need to do is 'index' the selection lever so it's accessable by merely reaching under the bumper.

Although with the bottom mounting plate set up, it may change thing's enough to take that option off the check list.

You'll want to have the option to 'free spool', without a doubt and there's generally enough of an opening through the farlead to see the drum, no need to pop the hood.

Permanently mounting the winch controll switch inside is the only way to go.

http://i639.photobucket.com/albums/u...hPatchDone.jpg

Thing to do is get the winch tossed in under there and find the best solution to those pesky question's. ;)
(mock up - phase two)

Re: PO has me PO'd

Yep, mock up phase 2

Thanks for taking the time to dig into the photo archives, you certainly give me more options, but more work!

I now like the feet rear option, seems to open up the whole bottom of the winch, but I will stay with center support. Since I already made it and it can't hurt. Did you use 1 'L' bracket per side to frame rail/plate?
Obviously, you setup worked, thanks for the info. Didn't know you could clock the freespool lever, guess I should have read the directions

It was what I had to do, so I tried it.

No direction's out there that I'm aware of about it but it worked fine.

You say 'feet rear-ward' as in facing towards the engine bay?
Thought that was in the direction's as a mounting 'don't do'...?

:lol:Used that one a time or two on family outings, but I had four in the car!

Will probably move the center support to outsides once I start playing with fair lead

I think this tag says something about reading the manual BEFORE attempting to install. Picture sorta looks like a guy reading a book, but it's in a weird language
