MDS STINKS waist of money!

I have a full MSD ignition on my 1987

6AL box x2
blaster coil x3
pro billet distributor x2
MDS cap & rotor x3
8.5 wires x3
Ignition modules x4

in the last 6 years I have less then 4,000 miles on all of this plus it all sat for about 4.5 years, I have replaced the every thing at one time or another and about 4 control modules in side the distributor yesterday on the dyno a plug wire failed for no reason about 500 miles on the set I have when over every thing about 5 times making sure every thing was connected correctly even had a shop go over it to make sure I didnt goof up something

also the Pro billet distributor was the reason I had to redo the engine the collar on it was not in the right spot so the cam gear eat away at the dizzy gear ruined the rings and bearings

will not buy another MDS part ever!

How long did your wires last? I just installed MSD wires onto my truck last month, ill be so pissed if 75 dollar wires decide to randomly fail..

none was touching the headers and the couple that was close has boots on them

I'm done with msd going to try tailor or some thing

Did you contact MSD? Companies don't last long if they turn out expensive crap. They sell a ton of stuff, but I'd be curious what they have to say before trashing them.

yes I did they say its some thing I done not there product, if I was wrong fine I would understand but the performance shop looked it over too and said it was correctly installed and they see a lot of msd failures too

the last set of wires was sitting in a box under my work bench inside my home for about 4 years and now there trash but funny how my other cars parked out side true the winters have over 30k on wires......

I usually use Taylor's myself, don't have much use for the pretty wires. I have used their ignition boxes and some other bits and pieces, but plug wires are right up there with religion and politics for some. Good luck!

I also have had bad luck with MSD items , Bought one of their dizzys and was a piece of junk.

I had a msd setup and had the same expericence, used to drop coils every 500 miles. I used to keep spares in the glove box and would pull over and change them out. One of the leading reasons all my future toys will be fuel injected.

I have had a MSD set up on my '93 GMC for 16 years now without a single problem. Except when I put a new module in the distributor, It was a Chinese product that failed right after startup.

I used MSD on my race cars. The only problem I had was when I stuffed one into the wall and it sort of destroyed the box as the front half of the car was ripped off. Yeah, I felt that one for a while.

Everything I own has a MSD of some sort on it. If I could get one to work on my lawn mower and airplanes they would be equipped as well.

About 80% I'd say of MSD stuff is from China-so draw your own conclusions there. Only their high end digital race stuff (ProMod, Top Fuel stuff) is still US made. For the typical consumer MSD has the philosophy that since they are so huge, they get away with selling turds because as long as people are happy getting a NEW free MSD turd to replace their defective MSD turd, then the MSD wheels can just keep turning and turning. I prefer Mallory Ignition (but now have been bought out....) and Taylor wires. Both to my knowledge are US manufactured a and we used to run Taylor 409 race wires on the sprint cars because MSD wires couldn't handle the extreme vibrations combined with sustained high RPM runs.

Just like a lot of companies that used to be good but now outsource all there materials and work. Don't post a reply about how good the company is if there product has been in your truck for more than five years cause chances are the old stuff is still good but anything they produce now is crap and they rely on there old reputations to push out newer junk.

Firecore50 wires are where it's at. Expensive but well worth it.
