Where to plug in wire from Fuel Sending Unit?
 

Hi Guys,

New to the board and a new owner of a 1969 c10. Noticed the gas gauge didn't work, so i followed the wire from the tank and found the wire was not plugged in, and had this small plastic harness on the end of it (see photo). I looked behind the gas gauge and did not see a slot to plug in the harness. Am I just missing it or does that harness plug in somewhere else under the dash?

Welcome,

There is a spot for that connector from the tank in the fuse panel labelled "Fuel Ga."

You're exactly right, just saw a few other photos of c10 fuse boxes and that same connector and wire are plugged in there. Thanks!

I plugged it in last night and started the truck up. Unfortunately the gas gauge still isn't working. Is there another wire that also needs to be hooked up to make the gauge work? Or is the sending unit maybe bad and need to be replaced?

The sending unit grounds to the tank which grounds to the cab (or frame if rear mounted).

The power to the fuel gauge comes from the "cluster feed" fuse, but that also feeds your warning lights (idiot lights).

Also make sure the ground from the instrument panel connector is good. Finally I guess one can measure the resistance from the disconnected brown tank wire to ground (tank/cab/frame) and see if it's open or has a resistance. Someone on here will know or have already posted what a good sender's resistance range should be.

If it was left disconnected then there was probably a known issue.
