Most Prized Truck Possession
 

I saw this on the 67-72 side and wanted to see what everyone over here has.

What is the one thing you would never part with related to your 60-66 truck.


I swapped the stock steering wheel out of my 64 for a smaller late model wheel to gain a little more leg room. After the truck was wrecked I traded it(like a dummy) for a 69. Kept the wheel because I wanted to keep some part of the truck. That truck was the first vehicle I went out and found and purchased on my own. I bought it from a friend of the family that my great grandpa helped as a baby. He is gone now but I still remember handing him the cash while I did the paper work (he had a car lot/junkyard) and he pulled a 20 out of the stack and told me to keep it for my first tank of fuel. That wheel hangs on the garage wall now, next to my piston collection.

I would keep the steering wheel for sure. Will probably keep the engine that was in the truck when I bought it, just because it never let me down for almost 2 years even though it went through a quart of oil in about 50 or so miles

I originally bought my 65 in around 82 or 83.
I found it more than 25 years after I sold it around 87. If I ever have to lose it again, I'll keep the ashtray. :)

The 9-ball on the shifter. Our daughter wore 9 on her high school softball team, and she drove the truck when she was in high school.

My 61 4x4.:lol:I'd know about and wanted this truck since I was 7 or 8.Was 23 when the PO decided to sell it.

My ashtray handle I mentioned above is from an oak tree in our backyard where I lived sometime in the 80's.

I'd say probably the grille is the only thing I would have to keep if I sold this truck. Built it last winter. Not perfect by any means, but it's the first major custom/sheet metal/body modification I've ever done.

In the early 80's my dad built a K10 show truck and my mother bought this keychain for him (and the truck) at the state fair. He sold the show truck, bought the rusty K20 I now have and put the keychain in it. Luckily both trucks were 66 K's ;)

Other than the truck itself, probably the front bumper. The truck was my great grandfathers shop truck, so it has been in the family since the 70s. Unfortunately had it burn up in a garage fire almost 4 years ago, but I'm going back through it. I say the front bumper because that is the one thing I can remember we didn't mess with when my dad and I restored the truck about 14 years ago.

I would keep the Apache 10 emblem on the side of the hood... no question!

I think the Apache name is one of the coolest things about this ol' truck!

My gramps deluxe wheel from his 66. Gram got in an accident in 67 sometime and the dealer put a 65 deluxe wheel back on it when it got repaired. Until i found this website, i didnt know that 66 deluxe wheel was different. So sometimes these trucks get changed in some way, and we grow up with them thinking "they came that way from the factory" and its def not true lol.

My Dad's Smokey Bear snuffer which sat on his dash from 1960, when he bought the truck new to 1972 when he died. I'm almost afraid to put it in my current truck for fear something might happen to it.

Yep, this is what I've also tried to explain in the past, particularly with the number of different assembly plants and then dealers they were delivered to at that time...lots of variabilities were bound to happen, and did.

Probably the hood bowtie, the one on the rear and Apache 10 emblems for me. These came from my first pickup my Dad bought me when I was 16-17. It was rolled over and pretty much totaled but I kept these pieces. Strictly sentimental value....along with the grill...very cool thread
