1966 K10 Axle/Disc Brake Swap
Hey there! I’m curious as to how much fabrication is required to swap in a later (70’s and up) front axle and disc brakes into a 1966 K10? I found a decent k20 8 lug front/rear axle set with all parts (corporate 10 with warn hubs & 14 bolt rear.) I was wondering if this would pretty much bolt in to the 1966. I know there’s a forum on here about the swapping process, but it didn’t mention the amount of fabrication required.
Thanks! Posted via Mobile Device |

I installed a 73 Dana 44 in one truck and a 91 suburban 10 bolt. No fab work. Not sure on the 14 bolt rear. I have not done this.
Welcome to the board. Check my build treads in my signature for swap info. Scott |

I did this recently. The 1973 front dana 44 bolted into my 62 k10. I had to cut the shock brackets off the old axle tubes and weld them onto the 1973 dana 44. The driveshaft bolted right up with the same u-joint.

Re: 1966 K10 Axle/Disc Brake Swap
If you use the hangers and springs from the 14 bolt to mount it you don't have to move the perches on the axle. But it's a lot of rivits to remove to mount the later hangers.
It does get rid of the tall lift blocks and bronze bushings of the original stuff. |
