What's a good power disc brake kit?
 

I'm going to swap out the manual drums on my '68 to power discs on front and leave stock drums on rear. I'd like to find a kit that won't brake the bank but also isn't inferior either. I'd like some suggestions please.

I'm going with Scarebird, mainly because I have everything but the calipers and rotors already.
I'm sure others will chime in too.

I bought a kit from POL online. Haven't installed it yet so can't say on quality of it but it sure looks nice. Paid $1100 for it with upgraded rotors, SS lines, and 2 1/2" drop spindles. By the way they have a 10% off sale going on now.

Are you going to drop it? If you are then the easiest way is to get new dropped spindles and 6 bolt rotors. It's basically a copy of the 71-89 setup except 6 bolt. There is at least a few company's that do it this way and then its over the counter parts except for the rotors and spindles.

I'm with BCOWANWHEELS . Did the same thing with my 68. Replaced everything from a 71 that i could buy from NAPA and put the whole sub assembly after i powder coated everything,including master cylinder/booster and proportioning valve under my 68. Brake systems are the one thing that i will not skimp or compromise on. Could't be any happier.

I bought this kit. Uses stock drum brake spindles and bearing hubs. Uses floating rotors from 1991 gmc 4x4 and 1998 astro van awd callipers. With the part #s all is available off the shelf as well. A little pricey but works well and you don't have to completely disassemble your suspension. If you want to add brake shields you can modify 67 70 car shields to fit.

No, get the proper m/c and booster for your year model. There different for 71-72

So I'm still in a conundrum trying to decide what route to go on my pwr brake set up. Not sure of I wanna buy a high dollar kit or just source parts out and make a kit? Ugh, I never new this was going to be so difficult!

Buy a parts truck 71 or up that has what you need and sell whats left .

What I think, and what I do on a vehicle like mine... a basic cruiser that's not custom. Keep it all the same year. That way you can say, all my brake parts are off an 19xx. You won't believe how much crap you've done that you will forget in a couple years. When I look at my heap, at least I can say all my running gear and brakes are off a 1985 SRW 1ton.. that includes the hydroboost and master.

I would do this, collect all used parts from junkyard. Then put them on. Get the basic system running then re-pull the components and rebuild as needed. I did that with my hydroboost and master. Still running the junkyard master and booster! I will pull and rebuild both when I re-route my hydro lines. I assemble for a baseline. But hey, sometimes you get lucky and can take a brake between assembly and making the system like new. Saves bucks too... it you're into that.

Bottom line, I would go GM and try to keep it all off the same year... it's the easy button.

Let me give you an example. I just bought the exact Qjet correct for my truck. It probably needs to be rebuild. But, here's what I'll do. I'll spray the crap out of it, stick it on an see if it runs... if so I might run it awhile, then I'll pull it and rebuild and make it nice. I like to see exactly what I'm dealing with whenever possible.

Drummer, I think he (Bcowanwheels) was suggesting that you simply upgrade to power drums by just ordering a booster and a new MC.
I have the stock power brakes and I haul massive loads and in 20 years with this current '69 I have been very confident stopping in any conditions. Discs would be nice but for me just not a priority at all. -BA

This kits price is per side, correct? Meaning $189x2
