'03 Tahoe Catalytic Converter

I was looking at a 2003 4X4 Tahoe, ex cop car today. It came from out-of-state, [NM], where Cats are not required, I'm told. I hear they are required in AZ, where it would have to be registered.
When I looked underneath, I saw one big muffler, both exhaust pipes fed into, and a single 4'' exhaust pipe out the rear that looked factory.
Motor is a Vortec 5.3. Could there be a catalytic converter inside, or would it need to be installed for AZ ADOT/MVD regulations?

The cats come immediately off the exhaust manifold on both sides. Often times referred to as the y-pipe. The y-pipe then connects to the muffler. You likely have a cat-less y-pipe on there now.

Install is easy for a DIY-er.

OK. Good to know for the future.

Too many red flags from that seller/truck:
-- Door handle D/S was busted and a coathanger wire with a cane loop came out of a 3/8'' hole in door.
-- Seat belt clip was stuck inside the plastic retractor. Had to pull it out with multi-pliers.
-- Steering wheel tilt adjust handle came off in my hand.
-- Dude weighed +300 lbs. Driver's seat needs new springs. :sumo: Also greasy.
-- Oil Pressure gauge pegged. Dude said it was just loose at terminal on block. ''Easy fix'' he said.
-- Radio AM/FM inop. Fuse was pulled he said, ''but it works.''
-- Ad stated 150 K mileage. On email Dude stated 160K. Odometer read 170K actual.
-- Ex-police undercover rig. Cops had wired flashing lights into Cyl #3 coil pack. Sometimes, it misses.
-- Electric 2WD/4WD selector just pops into 4WD when it wants to. Needs new switch, he said.
-- Bronze paint color very sunburned.
-- Key slot on barndoors rear, was plated over.
-- No license plate. A friend says that's a possible scam... They take out a payday loan on the truck, take the plates off, so Repo Man can't find it, then sell it lowball to a sucker.
-- Guy smelled of beer at 4 PM.
-- Very sketchy location rendezvous. Guy had me meet him at a bodega/carneceria on the South West side -- large Hispanic/Native American demographic area -- and he's White.:ito:
-- Didn't want to call me on my cell phone. Only contact thru CraigsList Emails.
-- Late to rendezvous.
-- I don't know if it had Cats on a Y-pipe. Seemed like it was dual exhausts into 1 large muffler.
I decided to walk away. I could've talked him down from $4000, but I don't have time for a project truck in the 20 year old range. I was looking for a reliable rig.

50 year old trucks, I understand, because I've been driving them 50+ years.

Thanks for getting back to me.
The quest continues...:chevy:
