out with the old in with the..... older?

well boys i sold my old 66. her name was darlene. she had a 305 v8, and a t5 transmission, all kinda new stuff and some sweet exhaust. lowered 3/5. but i needed some concrete poured at the house. let her go for a llittle less than i wanted to but its all working out perfectly. got my concrete ready to go this saturday and bought a replacement truck yesterday. its a 64, longbed. three on the tree, 283 powerpack. almost all original. pictures to follow

obviously the basics will be first. tune up, oil change, brakes, belts, tires, then 3/5 drop with sway bars and red frigen wheels!!!!

Are you going to leave the natural patina?

Re: out with the old in with the..... older?

the body will not be painted. i love gods paint job. lol. its a 283 powerpack and a 3 speed on the column. i have a 283 in the garage that i plan to swap in once i rebuild it. i would like to build that one up just a bit, cam, aluminum heads or powerpack heads, and man the 3 dueces setup would be way cool. but first im going to make it low. and drive it.

I'm hoping removing those Ford hubcaps fits in there somewhere too. :)

I like it, looks a lot like the one I picked up not too long ago.

Yeah, those take away power.

They look very close to Ford wheels but they are actually early 70s Chevy wheels. A friend of mine has dibs on them. This weekend my concrete is being poured maybe next weekend I will get to clean her up.

I guess I was so drawn to the natural patina that I didn't notice the F%&# hubcaps.

Re: out with the old in with the..... older?

this truck is insanely original. i only sprayed it off just a smidgen for my own look. tomorrow if i get a chance i will give her a good scrub a dub dub. next on the to do list is check fuel lines and fuel tank. it will get a rear tank before it runs down the road. the brake hoses are all shot so they will be replaced. and i have a hei distributor that needs springs and a coil/cap. the hot rod power tour ends in gonzales this year. i hope to cruise this truck there.

Re: out with the old in with the..... older?

That is a good looking truck. Hard to find all original untouched trucks. Heck I'd give it a good pressure washing..get it running and drive it. :chevy:

i toyed with the idea of putting a battery in it today and just seeing if it would turn over. the column shifter is very very stiff. any ideas on how i need to go about fixing that? ive never had a truck with an intact column shift

Re: out with the old in with the..... older?

well i got the column shifter working. just had to use a good bit of wd40 and work it back and forth a few times. shifts like a dream now. also installed a battery and tested out a few of the electronics. headlights work, interior lights work, all idiot lights work. turn signals are good to go but i have no tail lights. thought that was strange. also did a tune up and hei swap. some time this week i am going to try to give it an oil change and try to start her up. maybe it will bust right off. also got the CPP 3/5 kit coming in the mail. all new springs, shocks, sway bars, and trac bar.

Re: out with the old in with the..... older?

got it to start the other day. just filled the bowls on the carb hoping it would be enough to pull some fuel through the fuel pump. unfortunately my fuel pump is bad. easy fix. going to finish up on that tomorrow. in the mean time i got all my cpp stuff in the mail. so far i have only done the front. also changed the wheels to some that i had off another 64. tomorrow is a day off so i plan to do some thrashing and then some driving.

here is a little teaser shot.

Whenever I see project trucks being towed, I can't help but wonder how many drivers wish it were theirs........
