Removing trailing arm bushings?
Is there a way to press out the trailing arm bushings without the tool ? Or do I need to take it to a shop and have them do it? I am replacing with the original part so I have to get the outer steel sleeve out.

I replace mine with poly ones I rented a press (giant extra strong c-clamp) from auto zone once I got the bolts out I just pressed the rubber out and pressed the poly ones in.
Good luck Dave |
hey scull, get a power drill and drill some holes in the rubber, they will crumble out in no time, and it will save the sleeve. thats how i did mine........

Thanks guys, I did drill out the rubber but I bought the rubber bushings with the steel sleeve on it so now I need to pull the outer steel sleeve to get the new bushing in. I guess I should have bought the poly ones. Anyone know how to get the steel sleeves out? I think I can use a table vice to press the new one in. Maybe?

Naw,, I've done 2 sets now, there a snap. Cut the rubber on the side with the flange, get a propane bottle, hand held type, heat the metal part of the bushing and the rubber all around both sides, it will melt and loosen up, then smack it out. Just be carfull not to knock out the metal sleeve. I do em in about 6 min.

OK, Maybe I am not explaining this well. I have drilled out and removed the rubber and small inner tube from the bushings. That was easy. I now need to remove the steel shells because I am using the GM replacement bushings that come assembled with the steel sleeve on them. is there a good way to remove the steel sleeve/shell from the arm? Can I do this in my driveway? Anybody ever done it? Thanks.

I used a big socket, about the same size as the outter metal shell and a big hammer. It was a pain, but they eventually gave in to my relentless beating. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/board/ubbhtml/biggrin.gif
