8 lug slots
Is there such thing as the old style aluminum slot wheels in 8 lug? I've seen them in 6 lug every now & then but never 8, so just wondering.

Re: 8 lug slots
Yeah they did make them at one point...very hard to find now though, at least around here.

Re: 8 lug slots
I got these off craigslist a little while back, still working on getting the road oil off em.
On the back it says CARROL SHELBY CAL500;) Now if I only had a set of the flat washer lug nuts... http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...vo/cal500a.jpg |
Re: 8 lug slots
I think these look best in 8-lug.These mag-style lugs are available at any parts store.

Re: 8 lug slots
Yeah, they're called Duplex mag lug nuts. They come in either 1/2" or 9/16". They're the ones with the sleeve on them, not the long acorns.

Re: 8 lug slots
yeah, got my 9/16 lugs through summit.

Re: 8 lug slots
Hopefully the board member stillokin (I dont think I spelled that correctly) will see this. He has a set on his longhorn and knows alot about the sizings that were available. I believe he got his from craigslist also.

Like these? I have a set of four 16.5 x 8 with 9.50R16.5LT Sentry LT tires with 1/4" tread on them. Here is a link:

Re: 8 lug slots
Yeap, that's them! But I'm needing some that are at least 10" wide.
|
Re: 8 lug slots
They came in 9.75 wide.I ran 14.50s on them.If you were asking about newly made, the 15" diameter Ansen Sprints are re-made.But,they weren`t wise enough to do the 16s for 8-lug trucks.

I found these in the Summit catalog & they come in 8 lug 16x10. I thought they looked pretty close to the slots in the catalog pic, but then the pic online doesn't look the same http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku . What do y'all think about them?

i have a set of 16.5s that have 35/12.5s on them just fine but not sure how wide the rims are. if you lived closer i would sell them to ya i want a set of the dick cepek dc1's in black and silver.

Re: 8 lug slots
^Man,I could go for that if the original poster doesn`t.I guess it`s a wheel/tire package since these are 16.5.

A 10" rim fits a 12.5" tire really well. (good combo IMO) |

Re: 8 lug slots
I actually was fortunate enough to have someone offer me that trade last fall. He had a new set of DC1-B, with cheap 265 tires, that he traded to me for my slot mags. I really liked the slots, but they were 16.5" and I really do not want that wide of a tire.

Re: 8 lug slots
I realize that, but most of the tires out there that fit 16.5" dia rim, are wide. I like my tires a bit taller and narrower than most, and they are more available for 16" rims. That is why I traded for the DC1's.

Re: 8 lug slots
man, i always forget that web site that still makes those wheels , it starts with an A , im sure someone on here will direct ya to them, there exxpensive too.im thinking you can get all sizes 16.5 or 16. and these wheels are polished.

Re: 8 lug slots
i have a set of jelly bean wheels that are 16.5 x 10. they say carroll shelby on the inside lip. i got them on a 71' gmc c/20. i had this traveling polisher come by my shop. he pollished two of them up to a mirror finish. he asked me to pay him, and he disapeared never to return. that is what i got for paying before the job was finished.

You should be able to find most any size tire width to fit a 16.5 wheel, although it is getting tougher than it used to be. The other thing about a 16.5 rim is the bead, it's different than all other wheels. Tires can be removed manually (by hand) really easily. The unfortunate side to that is they cannot be aired down for 4wheeling as far as other wheels can be, if they are they'll drop the bead and there you sit with a flat. |
Re: 8 lug slots
Look at the pics on the 73-87 truck board, my 85 has 16.5 slots, previously on my 69 Longhorn. Not sure on width, probably about 8", also have a wider set on the 72 3/4 4WD but don't have pics, again 16.5"

Re: 8 lug slots
The old rim widths were 8.25 for 10.00 -16.5 tires and 9.75 for 12.00 -16.5 tires.
In the old days we would run 12-16.5 tires on 8.25 rims so you could lower the pressure and still keep them on the wheels. 16.5 wheels have no safety bead so they dismount easily. The only real problem was even with lower road pressures the tire centers would wear faster on the narrower wheels. This of course was with bias ply tires...before radials. |
Re: 8 lug slots
I just bought a set of 6 lug AL slots for $100. In nice shape, 2 tires with good tread.
