350 oil capacity

Just a quick question. How many quarts of oil does a 350 hold. its a early 70's block if that matters.

4qts in the pan and 1qt for the filter or its 4 1/2qts in the pan and 1/2 for the filter, guess it depends on the filter size. 5 Total if everything is stock will be good.

On this same subject does anyone have any opinion on when a larger capacity oil pan should be used?? I realize that for any engine it would be better, but say when should it be kinda of a neccesity???

Higher compression engine??
RV puller or camper truck???
Stroker?? etc.

Just wondering about doing it for my 383 and camper set up.

Probly will but just curious what everyone thinks???

if it were me, I would put on a oil cooler. that there adds a qt or more and would probly be better for your motor. I would think that higher capacity pans would be better suted for higher performance,4wheelin,racing then just dd. but like the saying says better over build then not enough, so more can only help.
