wheels for a stock '49 3100

I did some searching but I must not be using the correct terms, so I apologize. I have a barn fresh and very stock '49 3100 that I'm really not sure what I want to do with. In the meantime, I thought I'd just play with it a little this summer. I've fixed the stock brakes and now that the weather is warming up I'm going to try to get it running. That will leave me with what to do for tires. It has the stock 16" wheels with ancient (but still holding air!) tires.

I'm looking for a budget tire option, which really doesn't exist when looking for 6.00 or 6.50-16. In order to find cheap rubber, I'm looking for a different (cheap) set of wheels. Would something like this fit to get this truck rolling? Thanks for any advice.

Double the money and you have a set of Vintiques that you actually like.

Well, that's the issue, I don't want to double the money. I'm in the middle of a Chevelle project right now, but the two likely plans for this truck is to either get it running/driving and sell it, or do an IFS/S10 swap on it and keep it. Either way I'm just trying to put rubber on it to drive it this summer for the minimal investment.

I wouldn't be interested in the wheels I linked at $300, but I actually do like the look and might try to negotiate with the guy. I was really looking for 15" truck rallys and stumbled across these 16" ones.

Well, some places are far more than double per wheel what you can buy a set of Vintiques for, so I thought that seemed like a budget option...

1995 Chevy 6 lug is the same 6 x 5.5 as in 1949. Rest depends on the tire I guess.

I appreciate it, and looking at the vintiques it looks like I could get a set of 15x7 from Jegs for $287 shipped. That's an option I will consider, thanks for the idea.

Not sure if the hub opening on the '95 wheels would work.

A couple of thoughts: Multiple projects makes it hard to spend $$ on both - been there done that. If you do decide to get wheels and tires I'd suggest getting what you would eventually want on it rather than having to do it twice if you keep it. The first set would wind up being somewhat of a waste unless you run them for a long time. If it were me I'd either sell the truck or let it sit while finishing up the Chevelle.

That is definitely good advice, and mirrors my thinking in that I don't want to "waste" money on wheels I don't want long term. I don't have multiple projects... I have a fleet. '68 mgb, '59 Hillman Husky, '78 Wagoneer, '66 Chevelle, '49 3100. If I can get the '49 driving the Chevelle will be the only one not running and driving! If I could just find a $100 set of Craigslist tires to throw on the stock wheels that's what I'd do, unfortunately it's not easy to do that in a narrow/tall 16" tire.

Here's the truck, btw.

I took 2 minutes to search my local Craigslist to find these. Both will fit a 16” x 6” wide rim:

I would assume something similar exists where you live.

The 195 would be way too short, the 205 not too bad but plenty wide. I'll keep looking.

I got a set of Toyota Tacoma 16” tires for nothing at discount tire. They rubbed a bit when turning all the way but cheap is cheap
