Drop coils on 60...bolt twisting
 
Trying to swap the rear coils on my 60 burb and the lower bolt that goes through the coil cup is just twisting at the head. I see absolutely no movement of the nut or the portion of bolt sticking up through the nut. My guess is if I keep twisting the head will break off.

Is this ok or not? I guess what happens of the bolt snaps...can I just compress the spring and sould the rest of bolt just come out then or will I have a mess on my hands?

I'll admit I've never replaced coils before, but seems straight forward and I have the compressors that fit on the outside. I have the shock taken off and the rear end on Jack stands and Jack under frame. Hope this is correct...

What happens is the bolt rust in the trailing arm. I have had a couple over the years that were half gone when they broke off. I always hit the top with PB blaster and let it sit a bit then hit the bottom with the impact while holding the top with a wrench. Some times the bolt comes out sometimes the head snaps off. Then if it snaps off just let the rear down a little to put some pressure on the bolt and work it out with a pry bar. Then the plate goes in a vice and the piece left gets pulled out. I always put new bolts in top and bottom.
