My 1959 Apache Build

Hi All,

I am super excited to start my 59 Apache build. I am not even sure what I am going to do with it yet but it's going to be a slow process.

I will pick it up this weekend and get some better pictures, here is what I have so far.

Re: My 1959 Apache Build

I am very new to these old trucks so any advice you all can give would be greatly appreciated.

My plan is to drop it down a bit, add a bit of rake and make it handle & stop like a new ride. the whole process I expect to take a few years, with limited time and budget i cannot build it quickly. I want to go slow and do it right. Probably going to start by stripping, cleaning & painting the frame, then build out the rolling chassis before starting on the body & interior.

I do have a fairly well equipped shop (Lift, Welder, air tools...) and some fab skills which I will hone over the course of this project.

Advice I am looking for initially

1. Chassis, looking at IFS options, weld on, bolt on, what do you guys think?
2. Rear end options. What donor should I be looking for?
3. 4Link or flip axle over springs?

Thanks Daze, it is a good starter, almost all of the rust repair has been completed by the PO. As for budget, well I want to do things right so I plan to save for each step of the way, it may take me a few years to complete because of this strategy but I want a killer ride at the end :-)

I was on this form a few years ago with a 72 Jimmy that I had, tons of good folks, looking forward to keeping you all updated.

Nice looking 4 eyes! Google is your best friend because YOU can read the posts and make up your own mind. You will get so many Opinions about a IFS that you'll go around in Circles. Everybody has reasons why they are Right and in Reality they do have some good points. Good luck and I'll keep a eye on your progress

Re: My 1959 Apache Build

my .02 worth is start off with the frame, box it as well, move to the suspension. 2nd Camaro is a good choice, unless you've got the extra money laying around for the TCI stuff and independent suspension. Yes, weld and bolt wherever you can, the stronger you can make something, the better all the way around. 4 link is a great choice, but that depends upon your income. I went with a 2nd Camaro for front and rear and 4 leafs per side. it all depends upon your income and desires. good luck.

A little progress today. Started to remove the front end, luckily I bought the needler from harbor freight to break up the undercoat on the inner fenders to reveal all the bolts.
