Tail light gas filler
I saw a truck up for sale on e-bay that had the filler door behind the tail light. I was wondering if anyone had ever done this and how difficult it is. It looks like one of those things that's simple, yet complicated to pull off. i thought there might be a kit for it, but a quick googling yeilded no luck.

Re: Tail light gas filler
I thought Ken did one on the Balzer he sold...Ken?
I almost went that route on my 73, but decided not to...kind of wish I had at times. |
Re: Tail light gas filler
I'll see if I can get some pics up from the Blazer

Re: Tail light gas filler

Re: Tail light gas filler
im guessing that this is more likely suited on a blazer rear tank swap? i just couldnt see running that much more hose, unless im totally bored and dont have a wife to ***** about me doing something that she doesnt understand...

This is how we did it on my old Blazer. The hinges were built from scrath. We tried magnets as a latch, but they weren't strong enough.

Re: Tail light gas filler
I've been trying to devise a way to use a factory gas door & hinge set up to mount the light assembly to with the filler neck located behind and below the light. Something like what was done on this F*@d bed.

Re: Tail light gas filler
that's rad. I remember going to a car show in my youth. My dad said he'd give me $5 if I could find the gas filler on a '57 Bel Air... I won't make that mistake again.

Re: Tail light gas filler

Re: Tail light gas filler
I do like the idea. And as said before, you would be much better off doing this with the Blazer tank. For ease of plumbing. Anything to clean up the exterior.

I like the idea too. In fact, this is kinda silly , but when Ken and I were negotiating on the Blazer. I was kinda on the fence until he showed me that. |
Re: Tail light gas filler
I have a question about the Blazer. What did you set up for the wiring on the light?
|
Re: Tail light gas filler
I have been thinking of the same thing on my 83. My fuel cell is under the back of the bed but have not attempted it yet, hopefully this winter.

Re: Tail light gas filler
thats a damn good idea but it would be hard with a stock truck tank on the side,to run the tubing

Ford stepsides dont have that wheelarch accent (idn if that's what you'd call it) above the wheelarches. It looks to be a GM bed.

Re: Tail light gas filler
Some one lied to you that's not a ford bed on that blue truck.Just look at the body line on the tail gate no 2nd gen lightning has any body lines on the tail gate its flat with a bump out for the latch.
|
Re: Tail light gas filler
Yeah, looks like a GM bed to me too.

Maybe he was mis-informed as what the bed came off of ? Wonder if he knows he built a mix breed ? Still looks to be sharp looking from what can be seen..... |
Re: Tail light gas filler
Or just the wheel arch shapes are different too ford is nice and round gm is more oval.
