1972 c10 1/2 ton fuel problems
 

I have a 1972 chevy pickup. Still running the original motor and trans. I have replaced my electric fuel pump and sending unit 2 times. My issue is the carb is not receiving fuel from the pump but I also disconnected the in line to the fuel pump and turn the truck on and still no fuel coming from the line itself. So I can't figure out why the line isn't getting fuel in the first place. I checked the fuse area that runs to the fuel pump and it has good power, even replaced the wire to be sure there were no breaks in it. Any ideas or anybody who has had this problem?

Is the fuel pump in the tank or on the frame? 12 volts to pump and good ground at the pump should make it run. If the pump is frame mounted and running, how far from tank--should be close to tank--fuel line or pick up tube clear? Good luck!

Electric fuel pump? Was this an add on pump? Instead of mechanical pump on engine?

Can you hear the electric pump running? Does that particular pump need to be primed?

If the answer to those two questions is "yes" and "no" the fuel line itself must be plugged. Remove the gas cap then remove the hose from the electric pump inlet and blow air backwards through the line. You should only need about 10 or 15 pounds of pressure..... See if that opens it up.

Clearly late update ran into bigger issues, but the simple problem was a blown fuse in a hidden relay.

Thanks for the followup. It's always nice to know what caused a problem even if it is an off the wall solution. Who wouldda' thunk it...:)
